🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨Hope you've all been enjoying the lovely summer.
As the nights start drawing in and we are heading towards autumn we just want to thank everyone for your ongoing support of our campaign to save/enhance services at our hospital.
Below is a brief update of just some of the things we have been doing over the last few weeks.
🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨🏨

Some of the action group members attended the Trust governor meeting last month and got to speak. They gave the governors lots of information about the managed decline at GDH that has actually been happening under their noses and never challenged!!
They listened to the ideas the group has already previously shared in meetings with the Trust Execs and ICB
We are constantly asking the ICB for the outcome of the public meetings held over the summer- no report has been released yet.
We are liaising with the communications team at the ICB to get an updated Goole "top to toe" booklet out into GP practices to show what services are currently available.
We have challenged the Trust to explain why the mobile scanner that was based at GDH a few weeks ago had a 5 hour session with no patients booked into it.
At a meeting with Simon Cox from the ICB and ERYC members we were very vocal about the need for services to be saved and increased and the councils public health lead obviously had no idea what has been happening and stated that he will be gathering information about how many patients from our area have attended other sites for services that are at GDH. I did say be careful of stats as they can be written in any way the author want them to fit their own agenda!! He agreed and said they will gather data from lots of sources.
We have written a report after collating all the info from our public survey- over a 1000 returned. The report has been shared with David Davies, the ICB and ER councillors. It will be used as evidence in any legal challenge in the future.
We have been asked to sit on a multi agency group that the ICB are putting together about healthcare provision in Goole, of which GDH services will be included. The first meeting is planned for the end of September
We are currently responding to a letter received from the Chief Nurse at the Trust that still doesn't answer some of our concerns from the last few months.
We have attended lots of summer events around the area to get the message out to the public about challenging any appts they receive to attend other sites for services that happen at GDH. We are in regular contact with David Davies office staff about what they are doing and will be having a meeting with him now parliament has reconveened.
We have invited all the other GP practices to meet us to discuss what Howden MC have said as some have denied previously that there is an issue!

BROKEN TRUST- OUR HOSPITAL REMOVED FROM THE
BOOKING SYSTEM!!!

Local residents have continually made complaints to Save Goole Hospital Action Group (SGHAG) members that they are not being referred for services, in all areas of care, to their local hospital.
Since December 2024, when the campaign to save services at Goole & District Hospital (GDH) began, the group has been made aware that GP’s were not referring to the hospital. This has been raised numerous times during meetings with both Humber Health Partnership (HHP) group and Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (HNYICB) . A lead GP, who is also a member of the local medical committee, was contacted about this back in February too.
There were denials, from them all, that there were any issues with referrals being made to the hospital with an accusation of scare mongering being made against our group. Meanwhile patients continued to have to travel far and wide unnecessarily incurring cost not only monetary but also in time and added stress.
However, Howden Medical Centre has now, publicly through their social media page, disclosed that the Trust booking system does not include our hospital as an option when making referrals. They have actually advised that once an appointment is received the patient should contact the Trust and ask for the appointment to be at Goole if possible - thus putting the responsibility back to the patient and also the possibility of creating further delays!
The evidence has been overwhelming since the start of the campaign and this new information confirms what we all feared and the complaints we have brought to leadership.
SGHAG is now demanding clarity on whether other GP practices in the locality have GDH as an option on their booking systems. In particular Bartholomew Medical Group.as the majority of complaints from patients registered there.
Further to the above there is also the overwhelming evidence that when patients speak to staff within the Booking Teams at Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Hull hospitals to book/change appointments they are being told that certain clinics/services are not available at Goole. Patients are also reporting that when they challenge this they are being told of longer waiting times which is not true.
It is no understatement that due to our campaign patients are now challenging this more, some even attending GDH in person, to find out if the clinic/service is available.

This deliberate diverting is surely evidence of the managed decline of services at GDH.

Save Goole Hospital Action Group now calls on both the Trust and ICB to publicly

1 Come clean regarding fair referral options
2 Clarify when they changed the booking system leaving Goole off?
3 State WHY
4 Clarify why booking teams at other hospitals consistently do not book patients for appointments at Goole and give disinformation?
5 Clarify why all complaints regarding this are being ignored?

Save Goole Hospital Action Group now calls on all local GP practices to publicly clarify the following

1 Does your booking system offer Goole as a first option?
2 If your organisation is fully aware of what services are available at Goole?

The group would like to thank Howden Medical Centre for confirming this issue and stating publicly that they "are very much in support of GDH remaining open and utilising all the services they can offer our patients"

The group is hoping that this will be an incentive for all the local GP practices to step forward in support of both saving all the current services at GDH, together with bringing back the outpatients clinics that the Trust moved away during Covid.

They would also like to highlight that when Huddersfield Royal Infirmary was under threat of loss of services and closure their campaign group had the full backing of their local GP practices and
also their county council.

SGHAG representatives were invited to an urgent meeting with the East Riding Director of Public Health, Andy Kingdom, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council Anne Handley and Councillor Jonathan Owen earlier this week and

following on from that meeting the joint aim of SGHAG and ERYC representatives will now be to work with local GP practices to ensure that patients are once again referred directly to the clinics/services available at GDH.
