1 year of Steps Within 💛

It’s hard to put into words what this year has meant. So much growth, so many ups and downs, and so many women fighting for a better life.

From manifestation painting to personalised tarot readings, it was a lovely reminder of the importance of community, healing and taking time to reconnect with ourselves 💫

For many within the recovery community, it’s become a symbolic place of reflection, hope and gratitude — a reminder of how far recovery can take someone.

STEPS WITHIN-OPENS - GOSPORT PRECINCT

Cllr Zoe Huggins BEM & I were invited to attend the official opening of the new support centre run jointly by Steps Within and Recovery Connections Hampshire right here in Gosport — and I’m glad we went.💞

These two organisations are doing extraordinary work. Together they provide supported accommodation, peer mentoring and confidence-building courses for people recovering from addiction and alcoholism — with a particular focus on vulnerable women.

The stats tell part of the story. Nationally, over 329,000 adults were in contact with drug and alcohol treatment services last year — the highest number since records began. And yet women make up only 32% of those in treatment, meaning so many are still falling through the gaps. Women in treatment are also more likely than men to be living with children, carrying huge additional pressure alongside their own recovery.

Sinead and her team have created something truly special — a safe, compassionate environment where women can rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence and hope. It was an honour to be at the opening on Thursday the 16th of May.

Today I had the pleasure of visiting the CV Community Hub and meeting Sinead, founder of Steps Within

It was inspiring to hear about the incredible work being done to support women in recovery by providing a safe, supportive environment focused on healing, empowerment, and connection.

Raising awareness of services like this is so important, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the positive impact they are making in the community. 💜

The organisation supports women in early recovery through peer mentorship, therapy, and recovery-focused support services.

Today was all about self care, connection and trying something new 💙

Some of our Steps Within ladies took on the challenge of the ice bath and sauna experience with Plnge today — and smashed it! ❄️🔥

We had ginger shots, healthy snacks, lots of laughs and some amazing conversations. Recovery is about so much more than stopping substances, it’s about learning to look after ourselves mentally, physically and emotionally too.

So proud of all the ladies for stepping out of their comfort zones today 💪✨
