So many beautiful people in the world and I was fortunate to spend 6 days with over 80 of these beautiful souls from across the globe spanning 24 countries. We shared laughter, tears (a lot), learning and a deep connection that I will never forget. The Sky's the Limit, they say, but is it?
Or is it our own limiting beliefs in the mind?

Facing discomfort makes us psychologically stronger and builds a natural resilience to stress and makes us braver. The cold is one way to achieve this. You might not want to do it and everything in your mind is telling you no, silencing the mind and overcoming these thoughts will create an inner strength and peace, that you can take into your everyday life, making the challenges that it brings easier to deal with.

Let go of those limiting beliefs, silence the mind and achieve whatever it is you've being saying no to.

Imagine not feeling tired and having ooodles of energy!

Well, imagine no more, lie yourself down, do 3 rounds of the wim hof breathing and bingo, you're good to go!

What, wait... just breath?

Sounds too good to be true? Here's why...

Energy or ATP as it's known in the business is what we're looking to produce more of in our cells, more specifically by the mitocondria (the power houses) of every cell, by metabolising oxygen and glucose.

During the Wim Hof breathing method, amongst other amazing things going on, we cause a mild Hypoxia (a lack of oxygen available to the cells), this hormetic stressor, strengthens pathways in preparation for oxygen shortages in the future. Being in this state triggers the kidneys to release a hormone called Erythropoietin (commonly known as EPO), this in turn stimulates red blood cell production and what do red blood cells carry? They carry oxygen to the cells. So more red blood cells = more oxygen available at cellular level, which equates to more ATP. More ATP... more energy!

the biggest killer on earth... cardiovascular disease. Fact.

Within us we have 100,000km of veins, arteries and caplilaries that make up our cardiovascluar system, along with our heart. Put them all end to end and that's enough to go around the earth 2.5 times!

Surrounding these vessels are tiny muscles that help pump blood around our body delivering oxygen and nutrients to every cell as waste products are removed.

Problem: with modern day living and the comforts we all get used to, like putting on a jumper or turning the heat up when cold, these muscles stop working. This in turn puts extra strain on the heart as it as it now has do to all the work on its own pumping the blood around the 100,000km of vessels. This increases heart rate and blood pressure.

Using deliberate cold exposure, like cold showers or immersion fires these muscles back into life as the cold forces the veins to constrict in response to the cold and then dilate again afterwards. This cardiovasular workout strengthens the muscles and allows more control over them.

With the vascular muscles all working how they were designed and helping the heart circulate the blood you will see an instant drop in heart rate, sometimes up to 25 beats per minute. That's 25 beats per minute of every hour of everyday!

Not only a beautiful word, but also an amazing natural adaptive biological phenomenon (wow, big words tuesday!) innate in all of us.

Hormesis is basically the bodies natural ability to be able to adapt to a short term stressor, in this instance, the cold. Like any type of training, with gradual exposure to the cold, our resilience is built up and our bodies adapt to the stressor, raising our threshold to stress, which in turn reduces our stress response.

This resilience to stress that we build in the cold, is then transferable to our everyday life and gives us a physiological shield against physical, emotional and environmental stressors we may face.
