Kicking off ‘Seeing Thurrock Differently: A Journey Home’ - T100’s 12th Annual Festival is the intrepid James Lawrence, aka Man About Country; storyteller, land raver, and Essex- born walk leader.

James brings us ‘The Thurrock Story Walk’ – an immersive walk through Thurrock’s layered past.

Starting at Stanford-le-Hope train station on Saturday 23 May, 10am – 5pm, the walk will wind its way through the landscapes of Coalhouse Fort before ending at East Tilbury train station. See below for timings:

→ 10:00 START, Stanford-le-Hope train station car park

→ 14:30 Coalhouse Fort (12.5km / 7.77 miles) alternative joining/finish point

→ 14:30-15:00 Visit to Coalhouse Fort (this unique site is normally closed to the public - this is an exclusive chance to see inside the 19th century fort built to help protect the Thames estuary)

→ 17:00 FINISH East Tilbury train station (15km)

Throughout the walk James will weave history, folklore, and place-based storytelling, revealing how Thurrock came to be what it is today. Why not join us on our first event of the festival to journey back into the Thurrock homeland!
