Emergency Alerts Test: Sunday 07 September at 3pm:
The UK government will conduct a national test of the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 07 September at 3pm.
The Emergency Alerts system is an important tool for reaching the public in emergency situations.
Since the first national test of the system in April 2023, five alerts have been sent, including during major storms when lives were at risk.
Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it be needed during a life-threatening emergency.
The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if there's a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather.
Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, which will sound like a loud siren and vibrate - find out more at gov.uk/alerts
For those who need it, information on how to opt out is available on gov.uk/alerts.
