The contraceptive implant is ‘injected’ into the skin or the inner upper arm by and then lasts for 3 years. It has the advantages of minimal known health risks and is very reliable. The disadvantage is that irregular bleeding is common to begin with, on average for about 3 months, but after that the majority of women have no periods at all or very occasional light bleeding only. Rarely hormonal side effects such as breast tenderness or mood swings can occur. Very rarely women may have side effects in the arm where the implant is or it may be difficult for a doctor or nurse to remove it when needed.
We appreciate deciding what type of contraceptive method is suitable for you can be overwhelming. So, if you have any questions or would like to know if the implant is suitable for you, why not book a consultation Dr Burrell, who can guide you through all available options, explaining the pros and cons of each method to empower informed decisions about your body and reproductive health. Dr Burrell is also able to advise on sexual wellness and contraception during perimenopause.
At our discreet clinic, your chosen contraceptive method, is provided in a private, comfortable environment with compassionate care. We ensure all procedures are conducted with the utmost respect for your needs.
