Laura Thompson Independent Celebrant

Laura Thompson Independent Celebrant I’m Laura, an Independent Funeral Celebrant based in Grimsby, serving families across the surrounding areas. My connection to this work began early.

Independent Funeral Celebrant coming highly recommended within the Industry.
*Bespoke Funeral Service Readings
*Pre Written Eulogies
*Direct Cremation Services at a Venue of your choosing
*Memorial Services I typically support families within a 10-mile radius and can also arrange video calls if you’re based further afield. My dad has always worked within the funeral industry, serving as a funeral director, manager, and embalmer. Growing up around his dedication and care gave me a natural understanding of just how much compassion, care, and dignity matter when supporting families through loss. Since 2013, I’ve been creating and leading funeral ceremonies that honour the lives, personalities, and values of those being remembered. I take time to listen, gather the stories and small details that matter, and craft a service that feels truly personal, whether it includes faith, family traditions, humour, or simply meaningful words and music.

🐾 Parody Post – Just for Smiles 🐾

Hello, I’m Diesel.

I’ve recently been promoted to Assistant Manager for Laura Thompson Independent Celebrant (that’s my human mummy!) while she had a much-needed break.

Well of course I managed just fine. I have one blue eye, one brown, and I don’t miss a trick. 👀

Now she’s back, refreshed and recharged, I’ve decided to branch out on my own. You’re now looking at the proud Director of REST IN PETS – The Pawfect Send-Off. 🎩🐾

I specialise in dignified farewells for squeaky toys, tea towels, cushions, garden frogs, and the occasional sock.

I don’t take bookings or business from the public… but as you’ll see in the comments section 👇I’ve been managing to expand my little venture quite well on my own! 😉

Sending big hugs, woofs, and licks to anyone missing a beloved pet today. I hope this post brings you a smile. 💙

Feeling very touched by these kind words 🥰 It was an honour to help celebrate the life of the incredible Big Bri, and to support his family in creating a ceremony full of love, laughter and stories. 🛳🍦Thank you to the Larsen family for trusting me with such a special tribute 🪶

Did you know?
Some funeral services happen right at the graveside, and over the years, I’ve stood through my fair share of wet and windy ones! I couldn’t bear the thought of my shiny Doc Martens sinking into the mud… so out come the sexy wellies.

They never fail to get a giggle from families... they look wonderfully daft but do the job perfectly. I used to teeter around in heels, but I’m at the age now where I can’t pretend they don’t hurt. And there’s nothing more awkward than slowly sinking into the grass mid-tribute while trying to look dignified!

So if you ever spot me in my trusty wellies, just know they’ve saved me (and my feet) many times and hopefully brought a smile when it’s needed most. 💜✨

🕊️ Today I was asked to close a service with an Elvis send-off:
“Thank you, thank you very much.”

I practiced in the car like a woman possessed...windows up, lip curled, full Elvis mode. I must’ve looked absolutely bonkers at the traffic lights. 😅

Got to the crematorium and the vibe was strong. The crem tech was saying it. The bearers were saying it. Even the new guy (poor bloke) gave it a go. I thought, this is it..I’ve nailed it.

Then the moment came.
Lip went up.
Voice came out.
And I was… absolutely terrible.🫣

But they laughed. We all laughed.
And in that moment, it was perfect.

Because sometimes, it’s not about being serious, it’s about showing up with heart (and a questionable Elvis impression 🤭).

Sometimes, a good cuppa is just what is needed. ☕
Just five quiet minutes to breathe, gather my thoughts, and reset.

This job is emotional...beautiful, but heavy.
I carry each family’s story with me, and I always want to give them my full heart.
So little moments like this, with a hot brew in my hands, help me pause and get ready to give the next family the care they deserve.

I love my job. I really do.
But I’ve also learnt to love the stillness in between. 💛

RIP Ozzy 🖤 All aboard... the Crazy Train to Heaven. 🎸🚂

My husband has driven me mad over the years with Ozzy’s music blasting through the house — every album, every riff, every bootleg YouTube live session at full volume.
And yet, somehow, it grew on me.

One of Ozzy’s songs with Kelly 'Changes' has even become a favourite used in services. There’s just something so honest about it: raw, loving, imperfect.

I once tried to be the "cool wife" and surprise him with tickets… and got totally scammed.
That sneaky website had a countdown timer (classic trick), and I paid £260 for two tickets with a face value of £35 each. 🙈
They did arrive, eventually, from Ticketmaster.

The concert was cancelled because of Covid.
Then it was rescheduled.
And then, heartbreakingly, cancelled again due to Ozzy’s health.

We never did get to see him live.
But honestly, we’ve lived with his music all around us... in the kitchen, in the car, in the garden, on repeat.
Ozzy’s soundtrack will forever be part of our story.

So today, we raise a glass.
To the Prince of Darkness.
To the voice that filled our home.
To the Crazy Train, rolling on into heaven. 🤘

Rest easy, Ozzy. You absolute legend.

Image not mine... shared with love and respect. Happy to credit the original if known.

Oooh ekk, is it going to last? 😬 One of the joys of a celebrant..🤭
