Northern Lincolnshire Home Birth Group

It’s been almost a year since we launched the Homebirth group and our pilot events at various locations across North & North East Lincs have been great.

We want to say a big Thankyou to all that have supported us so far and we hope you have found the groups useful.

For the time being there are no further in person groups scheduled however you can see us at the Nest & Nurture fairs at the hospital to ask your questions and share your stories.
These run every 1st Thursday of the month 7-8.30pm alternating between sites, with the first one being this week (5th Feb) at Grimsby Hospital and then next month the first event at Scunthorpe Hospital will follow on 5th March.

We hope to plan a couple of in person meet ups later in the year so keep an eye out & in the meantime will plan some informative posts around Home birth and the common questions asked on this page.

We are still here to answer your questions too so if there is something you would like to know please feel free to drop us a message 😊

This book is one of my favourites that I recommend, it’s full of evidence based information and is easily digestible / not too overwhelming and also not too pricey! 😊

Why Home Birth Matters. Written by AIMS volunteer Natalie Meddings this book looks at homebirth from the perspective of asking Why go to hospital? Why disrupt the beginnings of labour to get in the car, travel and arrive at hospital - a shiny building with bright lights with people you probably don't know? She explains the shift in thought that is needed by society not to leave home to give birth. The book also explains in good detail why sometimes there may be a need for hospital care, the practicalities of planning a homebirth and the research which now makes it clear how safe and beneficial homebirth is for most women.

We are very sorry but we have made the decision to postpone our group this morning. After speaking to the venue and staff making their way to the group the roads are very icy and more snow is forecast in the areas we are travelling from, we don’t feel it is safe to encourage pregnant people/families to come out in this either and therefore have made a collective decision to cancel today.

We are in the process of rescheduling and will let you know as soon as we have done so.

Huge apologies to anyone who doesn’t see this in time and does turn up to the group - please share with anyone who was interested in coming along.

I’m sure with recent media coverage around home birth the question of “is it safe” may be coming up for people so we wanted to share this great article by Dr Sara Wickham that brings together lots of research and evidence to show that yes it is safe, a really worthwhile read with lots of great information (link in the post below)…..

We always see loads of questions about home birth.
