Case Study time 📝

In this case study, we take a look at chronic solar pe*******on and how the use of both Standing Equine MRI and Vision CT – combined – helped with a definitive diagnosis that was truly life-saving for the horse at Elders Equine.

Check out the case in our library >> https://okt.to/84NOTX

With superior diagnostic capability for solar penetrating injuries, Standing Equine MRI significantly aids diagnosis and treatment planning without the risks associated with general anaesthesia (1-6). The added advantage of combining CT and MRI for imaging of the distal limb means that cases with a....

For veterinarians navigating the complexities of equine lameness – which poses a significant caseload in many practices – 3D CT scans have become a game-changer. Unlike traditional radiographs and ultrasounds that offer limited windows into the horse’s body, CT scans such as those captured with Vision CT, provide a three-dimensional, high-resolution map of the musculoskeletal system.

And, this newfound clarity empowers vets to diagnose lameness with accuracy, leading to more effective treatment plans and improved outcomes for horses >> https://okt.to/hUz8si

Scanning the proximal limb of the standing sedated horse can prove challenging. Thorough preparation of the horse before and during the MRI scan, the importance of teamwork, adoption of best techniques for optimal image acquisition, and the need for quick decision making throughout the process will all pay dividends.

This comprehensive overview on how best to scan the proximal limb is adapted from a presentation made at Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging’s Equine User Meeting, Chamonix, 2025, by Rachel Pokora of Rossdales Veterinary Surgeons, with an introduction by Dr. Rachel Murray of VET.CT.
