A daily practice of playful experiments with paint and mark making materials can bring you great joy. Whether you are trying to stay in a daily art practice, or just want to unwind and doodle away mindfully, at the end of a hectic day, it’s a great habit to enhance wellbeing.
What makes is especially appealing and supportive, is that you can be creative within the comfort of a little sketchbook. It is not too overwhelming and it’s very portable, so it can be continued on holidays or when travelling for work too!
The most fabulous thing about journaling is there are no rules, boundaries or expectations. It’s entirely up to you how you would like to journal. You could begin in a numberof ways … anything goes!
You could begin very simply, in a tiny notebook, to create a small book of daily playful ballpoint doodles. You could choose to add some words. Or, you could gather some magazines and paper scraps to create a mindful collage torn and glued down.
Your journal pages may express feelings and memories of your day, or be a mindful practice of simple shapes put down on the pages of a little book, to relieve stress at the end of a hectic day.
I find using prompts helps me when I’m stuck for what to out down. Below are a few recent pages from my art journal, using the prompt “What brings you joy ?”.
