As we come to the end of our week remembering Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has followed, shared, and engaged with these special memories.
It has been an honour to hear and share the personal stories of those who lived through World War II—stories of resilience, community, and hope.
These memories remind us not only of the challenges faced, but also of the strength, togetherness, and spirit that carried people through.
We are incredibly grateful to our service users for sharing their experiences and helping to keep these important stories alive for future generations. ❤️

Today, 8th May, marks Victory in Europe Day (VE Day). To close our week of shared memories, we’re honoured to share one final story from one of our service users.

EB from Canvey remembers the strong sense of community, with mums coming together to prepare food and bring tables and chairs out into the street. Children sat together playing games, winning prizes, and enjoying the music that filled the air.
“I was 20 years old and helped organise the games around the table,” EB recalls.

A joyful reminder of how communities came together to celebrate the end of World War II—marking the day with togetherness, resilience, and hope. ❤️

As we continue to reflect on Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), we’re sharing another powerful memory from one of our service users.

AB from Thundersley recalls being just 7 years old when he was evacuated to Scotland. Over the years, he moved between Scotland and Bristol, before finally returning home to Enfield at the age of 11—having attended four different schools along the way.
His father worked on the docks, which were bombed during World War II, but thankfully survived.
AB fondly remembers the community spirit of the time—mothers in aprons preparing for street parties, baking cakes and making blancmange and jelly, while neighbours brought out tables and chairs to celebrate together.
“We accepted what happened and had a good time as kids—we enjoyed ourselves,” he recalls. “We even used to go out looking for shrapnel. I had a good life.”

As we continue to mark VE Day we are sharing another personal memory from one of our service users.

VB from Rayleigh was evacuated between 1939 and 1942 living in Wiltshire in a lovely village before returning home to London.
She remembers not thinking too much about the experience at the time-just feeling happy to be back with her family, Food was rationed, but she says “We managed”

At just 14, VB began working in WH Smith head office in London, where she recalls feeling safe travelling to and from work.

Stories like VB’s remind us of the resilience and strength shown through World war II ❤️

As part of our VE Day Reflections, we are proud to share a special memory from one of our Service Users.

PB From Hockley was just 12 when World war II ended. Living in Twickenham, in a small street of just 17 houses, he remembers celebrating with his parents around a Bonfire – A simple but powerful moment of joy and relief.

Friday 8th May marks Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), celebrating the end of World War II in 1945. Since then, VE day has continued to be a day of remembrance for those fought in World War II.

This week, we’ll be sharing special memories from some of our service users who were there on VE Day 1945.

Although we cannot image what those involved in World War II had to endure, we are eternally grateful for their service and sacrifice.

🍀 Happy St Patrick’s Day! 🍀

March 17th is celebrated in honour of the passing of St. Patrick in 461AD.

Did you know St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was actually born in Britain? As a teenager he was brought to Ireland, where he later returned as a missionary and helped spread Christianity.

☘️ Fun facts:
• The shamrock was said to be used by St Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity.
• The first St Patrick’s Day parades were held in the United States.
• The original colour linked to St Patrick was blue, not green!

From all of us at Premier Care we wish everyone a lovely day filled with kindness, community, and a little luck. 💚
