For a week or so in July, most of the UK baked in glorious sunshine and the mercury rose higher than in much of Europe. Despite many of us hoping for a tropical British Summer to ease the disappointment of travel restrictions, when the hot weather finally arrives, the typical British response is to claim that ""it's too hot"" - We're all guilty!

But when is it actually too hot? - With many workplaces in the UK not setup to cope with the rare soaring temperatures, there is a genuine question raised as to whether it's safe for employees to work. Only last week, Welsh establishments The Stone Crab restaurant, Pembrokshire, and the Stamp and Grind Coffee Bar, Blackwood closed their doors, with the latter recording temperatures of over 42 degrees celcius behind the counter.

But with the later parts of August set to bake again, what are the official rules?

Businesses could do with a break as they aim to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with record temperatures being recorded across the globe and the first heatwave warning of its kind announced in the UK today, where do businesses and employees stand when it comes to temperatures in the wor

I found the first aid course presented by James Sanderson to be very informative and enjoyable.

I have done many first aid courses over the years and have mainly re-learnt the same things over and over. Although the fundamental core of the course doesn’t vary a great deal, I can honestly say that this is the first course I have attended that has taught me new skills and was a very refreshing experience.

James seems to have the ability to create a great learning atmosphere, to the point where it is more like a few people in a room having a chat than a strict learning environment. Everyone shared their stories and experiences, and every time James stopped and listened and also shared views and opinions as well as fact-based teaching. This type of atmosphere makes it so much easier to learn and retain information.

We chatted a lot, laughed a lot, and learned a lot. Which in my opinion is the perfect way to present a course, but at the same time the importance of the subject matter and the ability to do it right was still communicated perfectly.

I would 100% recommend James’ services to anyone and be sure they will learn a lot but have fun doing it.

More than 1 in 7* people suffer from mental health illness at work and this number looks to worsen further with the fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic, the full impact of which is yet to be seen.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) does not distinguish between physical and mental health, meaning organisations have an obligation to support their employees' physical and mental health.

In 2017, the government commissioned Lord Stevenson and Paul Farmer (Chief Executive of Mind) to independently review the role employers can play to better support individuals with mental health conditions in the workplace. The 'Thriving at Work' report sets out a framework of actions – called 'Core Standards' – that the reviewers recommend employers of all sizes can and should put in place. The core standards have been designed to help employers improve the mental health of their workplace and enable individuals with mental health conditions to thrive.

Our mental health first aid course is designed to provide organisations with the skills and knowledge to implement the Core Standards in their own workplace.
