R U N N E R S πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ How many heel raises can you do? Read below to see the significance ....
Runners should ideally be able to perform 30 single leg heel raises on each individual leg to help reduce your risk of calf or Achilles injury. 50% of the force required to run is generated β€˜below the knee’ so if we aren’t keeping the bulk of those muscles strong, we are predisposing ourselves to issues, & who wants time off due to injury? ❌
For that extra challenge, see if you can complete these with your knee bent.
❕FACT❕: Bent knee heel raises work on your soleus muscle, this sits behind your gastrocnemius (calf) & creates the highest peak muscle forces across all running speeds πŸ’ͺ🏻

β€œMy knee had been causing me pain and mobility issues over the past few months, it had been weak for a long time after dislocating it twice in the past. I saw a consultant who took X rays and an MRI scan, but then everything was put on hold due to Covid. I decided to try physiotherapy to gain some relief from the symptoms and consulted Vicky Withers. Vicky was very thorough when β€˜examining’ me through zoom, she was very reassuring and spent time explaining my problem in detail to me, so I finally had an understanding of what was going on, something I found the orthopaedic surgeon didn’t really do. She really put my mind at rest as I was very worried about it. I have been seeing Vicky now for a couple of months and I’m delighted to say that my symptoms have virtually gone with the guidance and exercise programme Vicky has provided. I’m so pleased as was potentially was going to have cortisone injections.”
