Have you thought about a homebirth? 🏡
Have you had a homebirth and like to share your experience?

Overall, within the UK giving birth is safe for both you and your baby. Whichever environment you choose to give birth the safety of both of you are our priority.

Research surrounding homebirths has found it is safe for healthy pregnancies with no complications between 37-42 weeks of gestation (term pregnancy).

For people who have had babies before it also found no change in birth outcomes for mother and baby between home birth and hospital.

Benefits of homebirth; increases chance of normal delivery, reduces intervention risk (assisted delivery and caesarean birth), more likely to know the midwife caring for you, be in your own home environment throughout birth and after creating a lovely oxytocin cocktail of hormones.

Pain relief is still available such as paracetamol, water, massage, tens machine and Entonox (gas and air).

If you are high risk and would like a homebirth, we would like to work with you and your consultant obstetrician to make a safe supportive plan of care.

Our team is supported by community midwives running a 24/7 model and service. There may be times where the service is suspended which may impact your homebirth. This may result in us advising you transfer to hospital for birth. We will always try to accommodate where possible to provide the care and birth plan you desire.

Good Evening Everyone!
I want to be very clear about what I do so that there is no confusion - I do not support women and families in a medical capacity. Women deserve more than medical care. There is so much more to pregnancy, birth and beyond than that.

There are so many ways that I support my clients, based on their needs and budget. Each family is different, and each pregnancy journey is different, so your support should be bespoke and adaptable as we progress throughout the pregnancy, birth and postnatal period together.

Things have been happening in the world of birth. I have been sitting with this since the announcement, trying to decide how to comment on it - or if I should comment at all. But we have to use our voice and speak out for what we believe in. This effects EVERYONE.

Last month the Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting announced YET ANOTHER enquiry into NHS Maternity care. This one seems to be bigger and bolder than the rest, but we have heard these things before.

The NHS Maternity services are failing women - we know this. It's not for a lack of effort - there are incredible people behind the maternity services trying their best to keep it going and to do the best that they can for the women and families in their care. But mistakes are happening, things are getting missed, and too many women are coming out of their birth feeling traumatised.

If there is one thing I know, it's that the role of the midwife is too big for one individual to do every aspect well. Something always has to give. For some incredible midwives - that thing is themselves, to ensure the women in their care get everything. But that just isn't sustainable.

The only way I can see change in maternity care is for the role of the midwife to be cracked open. It is two roles - and it should be done by two people. The medical role needs to be just that - concentrating on the medical aspects of birth. The wellbeing role needs to concentrate on continuity, emotional support, guidance and advice, advocacy, etc. If both of these roles are filled for each woman, experiences and outcomes of birth would so much different.

‼️Something needs to change‼️

⚖️My scales always accompany me when attending postnatal clients⚖️

Your midwife and health visitor will complete all official weigh ins for baby - but sometimes you just need that reassurance that you are on the right track.

‼️Many families feel that after they have been discharged by the midwife, they are left without any means to keep check on baby's weight, since the regular weigh in service by the health visitors has been suspended and discontinued. This also means that women have no easy access to a friendly face, where they can unload questions, worries, concerns, or just generally feel as though they are being heard.

👋Whatever stage of the journey you are at, whatever way you have decided to feed your baby, I am here to support you in this incredible (but lets face it - challenging!) time. Give me a call and I will be there.
