🌿 Why Working With Your Senses is Essential for Regulating the Nervous System 🌿
As I sit here in a state of dysregulation, I thought I'd share something about using the senses to help calm the nervous system. What works for me: loud music through headphones, Aircon on my face, sucking a sweet and vibration.
Our nervous system is constantly scanning for cues of safety or threat, and our senses are the messengers. What we see, hear, smell, taste, and feel plays a powerful role in how regulated (or dysregulated) we are.
When we intentionally engage the senses, we can shift out of fight-or-flight and into a more grounded, calm state. This is why practices like breathwork, calming music, warm tea, soft textures, or nature sounds can feel so soothing they signal safety to the nervous system.
Sensory regulation isn't just about relaxation it's about resilience. By building a sensory toolkit that works for your body, you create a pathway to return to center, even during stress or overwhelm.
💡 Start simple:
Run your hands under warm water
Wrap yourself in a weighted blanket
Light a candle with a scent you love
Listen to a song that makes your body exhale

Regulating your nervous system starts with noticing what you feel and honoring what your body needs.
✨ Your senses are a doorway to safety. Use them with intention. ✨
