We start bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to take on the world and full of optimism that this time it will be different. This time weโ€™ll follow our program with discipline, resist temptation, and the weight will steadily fall off.

And then reality rears its unwelcome head.

Despite best intentions, best behaviours, and doing everything right, sometimes the scales donโ€™t want to cooperate.
โ€ข
The problem doesnโ€™t lie with the program, the body or the behaviours. The real problem is with expectations.
โ€ข
Weight, at any given point in time, is influenced by many factors.
โ€ข
These include:

โ€ข Fatigue
โ€ข Mood,
โ€ข Activity
โ€ข Bowel contents
โ€ข Hormonal fluctuations
โ€ข Day of the week
โ€ข Stress
โ€ข Gut bacteria
โ€ข Sleep quality
โ€ข Specific food and drink choices
โ€ข Inflammation
โ€ข Illnessโ€ฆ the list of influences is long.

Once this fact is accepted, expecting them all to align every time we step on the scales is absurd!

I always get asked - wonโ€™t weight training make you bulky? Why do you do weights? I wouldnโ€™t know where to start?

So hereโ€™s 7 benefits of weight training for women ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

1. Lose Body Fat
Weight training builds muscle, as lean muscle increases so does metabolism. A higher metabolism means that you will burn more calories all day long. For each pound of muscle you gain, youโ€™ll burn 35 to 50 more calories per day!

2. Gain Strength Without Bulking
One of the most common reasons women avoid weight training is because they are afraid of โ€œbulking.โ€ This is a misconception as it physically can not happen. Women simply donโ€™t have the testosterone to build muscle like men. Instead women develop muscle definition and strength without the size.

3. Decrease Risk of Osteoporosis
Weight training not only strengthens muscles, it strengthens your bones. Weight training increases bone density, which reduces the risk of fractures and broken bones. Weight training can increase spinal bone density to create a strong and healthy spine according to research.

4. Reduce Risk of Injury
Weight training also increases strength in connective tissues and joints. Strong joints, ligaments, and tendons are important to prevent injury and can relieve pain from osteoarthritis. Strengthening muscles and connective tissue will make injury from daily tasks and routine exercise less likely and can even improve sports performance.

5. Burn More Calories
Weight training has been proven to raise your metabolism for up to 24 hours after a workout. The more intense the workout the more calories are burned. After an intense workout there is more Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption, or EPOC, meaning there is an increase in oxygen consumption, helping break down fat stores in the body.

6. Improve Posture and Reduce Back Pain
Weight-training will strengthen your back, shoulders and core. This will help to correct bad posture so that you can stand taller, with shoulders back and spine straight. A stronger back and core will also prevent lower back pain

7. Enhance Mood and Reduce Stress
Exercise and weight-training release endorphins. Endorphins are neurotransmitters that prevent pain, improve mood, and fight depression. An increase in endorphins naturally reduces stress and anxiety. Endorphins also stimulate the mind, improving alertness and boosting energy. Weight-training can brighten your entire day or help you combat a bad one.

Beth has lost 3.4kg, 1.1% Bodyfat and 14cms overall! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ
She has also brought her metabolic age down by 3years! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
