✨ Yoga as a Pilgrimage ✨
Many of you know I walked the Camino Portuguése from Porto to Santiago de Compostela in April with my daughter, Fen - it is one of the most brilliant things I have done in my life for so many reasons. It touched me deeply on many levels.
Fen and I were both struck by the intense scent and clean air in the eucalyptus forests, it was intoxicating and grounding, we found ourselves yearning for it. It felt like a sanctuary at times, a church even.
I was listening to a Brené Brown podcast on my journey home (she is my hero) and she asked this question: “Where’s your church?”
For me, both on the Camino and more generally, it’s walking somewhere beautiful - like our coast path - with other ‘worshippers’. It is also Yoga, of course, and pottery.
Where’s your church? Maybe it actually is church, or yoga, gardening, fishing or cooking? I think it’s anywhere you feel fully alive and where you can be your true self. It’s where you are totally at home and it’s where you find your peace.
Prioritise it now, above all else. I’m going to.
And on pilgrimages, in a synergistic coincidence (is there really such a thing?), my teacher Ranju’s latest book came out in February and includes more simple, practical and life-affirming concepts to guide us through our Yoga journey.
I love his style - if you know Ranju it really is like he’s talking to you. The book is a companion while you walk this particular path.
