I have been diagnosed with a painful disease called Lipoedema, it is a chronic, painful, connective adipose tissue disorder that almost exclusively affects women.

Afternoon, I'm pleased I have finally hit my target of 2st weight loss after being on MJ since December just before Christmas 2024.
I have re-ordered 5mg to maintain and aim to stay on it for the long-term because it has reduced some inflammation.
I would like to lose another 2lbs to hit 10st on the dot but I think its unlikely now given I can now feel my ribs easily and my torso caves in.
Just for re-cap I'm stage 1 and type 3 (just legs) and 5ft 3, I'm just waiting for a surgery quote from Dr Karri, although he said I only need 3L removed and it can be done in one surgery.

12/04/2025

Morning every one, my appointment with Dr Karri went very well last Wednesday 9th of April.
My consultation appointment was at Kinvara hospital in Rotherham and we stayed at Rotherham central travel lodge which is only an 8 minuet drive to the hospital.

I wouldn't advise walking it because it's up hill and we knew my mobility scooter wouldn't make that hill.
There is free carparking at the hospital, reception staff are very friendly and I was made a cappuccino on arrival and toilets are in the reception.

Travel lodge carpark is normally a chargeable fee but the machine is broken so we didn't have to pay to park.
Dr Karri is very compassionate and very informative, he will answer any questions and put your mind at rest.

I was informed by a MLD therapist I had Lipoedema in my full arms (early stages), however Dr Karri said my arm shape is down to age related skin sagging and poor muscle tone, it's certainly not enough to be given this location.
I was told I may have some Lipoedema fat in my lower tummy but not enough to be given this location to.

I have been reassured, now I'm 50 and only started getting symptoms over the last two years, progression is unlikely providing I keep my weight down and maintain a healthy diet.
I informed him I plan to stay on a low dose of MJ and the plan is to try and keep my hormones stable.

Because I'm suffering from chronic pain all the time, I'm surprised to be diagnosed stage 1 and I'm type 3 (just my legs).
Dr Karri said although my Lipoedema will cause discomfort and some heaviness, my main source of pain is likely to be down to fibromyalgia, chronic hip pain due to tendonitis on my greater trochanteric joint, including small labral tears and I suffer chronic pain in my pelvis and over my p***c bone so that is something underlying and not Lipoedema related.

It was easier for a Lipoedema diagnosis because my ribs are easily felt and my torso caves in, my hips have always been wider than my waist since my youth and my legs are column shape with some cuffing at the ankles and I mentioned I've never had toned legs even at 8-9st, also I was very active as a teenager with lots of walking and horse riding up to age 20 and yet I wore sizes 10 tops and size 14 jeans, I just assumed I had my nans tree trunk legs.

I have lost 1st and 13lbs and now weigh 10st 3lbs, I'm 5ft 3 and thanks to MJ the appearance of my legs have improved and they feel lighter, however the pain is constant and sleeping at night is a challenge.
I sleep with a soft pillow under each arm and a soft thinner pillow under my knees as I cannot sleep on either side so I have to sleep on my back.

I'm also suffering from chronic pelvic pain and severe pain on my p***c bone so another thing I need ruling out is HEDS/EDS and Pelvic Congestion Syndrome.
I have nearly all the symptoms of PCS which fit and a tilted uterus so it looks like I'm having to continue to beg for more answers because the NHS do so little and the help we so desperate need has to be private now or risk waiting years and continue being ignored, suffering further complications.

I have been waiting for a pain clinic appointment since August 2024.
Anyway I know I could be in a far worse situation and that I'm grateful so I apologise for moaning.

I have been told Liposuction surgery is too early and it's more beneficial from stage 2 and if my pelvis and hips are causing severe pain, these issues need tackling first.

If I do go down the surgery route, it can be done in one operation and will be approx. 3L removed.
A consultation with Dr Karri is £250, book travel lodge in advance for the best prices, although premier Inn is in a nicer area.
Rotherham central travel lodge do have their own mini bar and café serving food although I scooted to the Bluecoat Wetherspoons for cheap meals and it is a nice pub.

Rotherham town is tidy but I wouldn't recommend walking around at night, but the area is clean and locals very friendly.

There is a cinema next to the travel lodge, not that we used it but its an option if your dragging someone along with you and they wanted to be entertained for a couple of hours.

Anyways I will take a photo of my wonderful 'Lippy' legs that have carried me for 50 years and show case my stretch marks and scold marks from hot water bottles.
Although I best dry my underwear first though, it's still in the washing machine! 😎

My Lipoedema journey is very taxing, I'm still coming to terms with my diagnosis, still feel angry some days as I didn't know for nearly 50 years.
Still feeling like 'why me' and having to navigate chronic pelvic and hip pain, long covid with a new diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and the impact of my M.E/CFS that covid caused to go from mild to moderate is a bitter pill to swallow.

I suspect I also have EDS/HEDS and Pelvic Congested Syndrome but asking doctors to act on my concerns is like getting blood out of a stone.

Prepping food is a daily struggle so I do have to ask my husband to batch cook and I don't feel guilty eating one ready microwave meal a week from Lidl/Aldi or a slimming world meal from Iceland.
Thinking about what foods I should avoid made me literally start avoiding meals.

I can no longer cope going full on keto, this morning breakfast is 20g of fine porridge oats, mixed with a thick protein Icelandic strawberry yogurt, tsp of natural peanut butter, tsp of honey, vanilla essence, tsp of chia seeds, 2 tsp of mixed seeds and a handful of mixed berries.
Dinner today will be a low calorie/low fat ready meal tikka curry with broccoli.
Tea will be homemade stilton/broccoli soup and a small handful of lentil pasta to make a decent sized bowl.
Snacks are 2 pickled eggs and 20g of mature cheddar cheese.

I have minimal lactose free milk, no fizz or squash and to be fair the bare minimal carbs anyway and no sugar or artificial sweeteners.
Yes my diet is far from perfect but food avoidance made me deeply depressed.

I miss the odd cake, I miss chocolate, the cheeky chocolate cookie from Lidl bakery and I miss pizza but it has sunk in they were poison for my body, so those foods are restricted for my birthday and Christmas only.

We can't seem to bake a perfect GF loaf of bread so I'm working on that, it always comes out a little bit under cooked.

I don't eat fruit every day but I do enjoy the odd banana, slicing a ripe banana and freezing it is lovely, top with chia seeds and peanut butter, its far healthier than cake or ice-cream!

My weight in the beginning was 12st 2lbs, it's now 10st 3lbs, but it will probably go up and down a little and that is normal.

I miss walking, I miss my old life but I do count my blessings to, I'm still here and if my daughter has Lipoedema, I want to be here to for her to and support her battle with this life changing disease.

Spring is in full force and were dusting off my Brinsea incubator this evening, I love spring chicks around Easter time! we keep four chickens and are keen to add to our little flock of girls and eggs is a food stable in our house, beats the supermarket eggs!

Waiting to hear back from Medicine Marketplace to move over to them from MedExpress for my weekly medication of 'M' because their prices are very reasonable in comparison to other providers so no need for money off codes.
Hopefully the providers understand I still want to lost another 16lbs if it's possible and maintain so if I have surgery, as much diseased fat is exposed as possible to be removed. 🤞

Really suffering today, painkillers are barely touching the sides, I cannot put a number on my pain.
I'm late administrating my weekly injection, I have to cancel my doctors appointment next Friday because it clashes with my hernia referral so I'll have to wait another 2-3 months to see another doctor.
April can't come soon enough for the pain clinic.
I'm changing providers to Medicine Marketplace, no offers just a good price, thank you to Loraine for the heads up.
Honestly I don't know where I'll be without my fellow Lippy ladies who have helped lift me up on really dark days. 🩷
I'm desperate to exercise but just walking around our home hurts, everything I do to try and help myself apart from self MLD just aggravates the pain in my legs, pelvis and groin. 😢
