May Caguicla lived with breast cancer for over 10 years. She filled those years with kindness. May overflowed with generosity and love to her family and to her many friends.
Where one might have expected May to despair or to have become difficult, she kept to the fore a cheerfulness that kept out of sight the extent of her illness or the increasing pain she endured.
May could light up a room with her smile, and the arrival of visitors brought her much joy. Visitors to her home went away enriched, even though they might have come supposing they were there to offer her support and company. And people surrounded May in amazing numbers. Young and old, from all walks of life, May drew people together, and all found a deep warmth of welcome, and there was always hospitality. Food, parties, celebrating being together with much laughter, these were all hallmarks of time spent with May.
The many people who now remember May are grateful that she touched and enriched their lives. She showed them all how to retain a deep joy in living, until the very end.
We invite all May’s friends to share in marking our gratitude for her and for the many professionals who cared for her, especially from the NHS, MacMillan Cancer Support and St Catherine's Hospice.
