Five steps to mental wellbeing
Below are five things, that according to research, can really help to boost our mental wellbeing:
 Connect - connect with the people around you: your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. Spend time developing relationships with people who genuinely care about you and are good for your mental health.
 Be active - you don't have to go to the gym. Find an activity that you enjoy and make it a part of your life. If you are less mobile take up gardening or anything that encourages you to be more active that you like doing.
 Keep learning - learning new skills cam give you a sense of achievement and a new confidence. So why not sign up for that cooking course, start learning to play a musical instrument, or figure out how to fix your bike?
 Give to others - even the smallest act can count, whether it's a smile, a thank you or a kind word. Larger acts, such as volunteering at your local community centre, can improve your mental wellbeing. Volunteering gives you a sense of purpose, develops your skills, supports new learning, gets you active and you will meet other people in the same situations as you.
 Be mindful - be more aware of the present moment, including your thoughts and feelings, your body and the world around you. Some people call this awareness "mindfulness". It can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges. 🎗️ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️ Let’s talk about what doesn’t always get talked about.

Breast cancer isn’t just a physical battle — it’s an emotional one. The diagnosis, the treatment, the waiting, the scars — they can leave deep marks on mental health. Anxiety, depression, body image struggles, and trauma are real parts of the journey. And they deserve just as much attention as the medical side.

💬 Mental health matters.
Whether you’re a patient, survivor, caregiver, or grieving loved one — your feelings are valid. Support groups, therapy, creative outlets, and community can help carry the weight. You don’t have to go through it alone.

👥 And let’s be clear: breast cancer doesn’t only affect women.
Men can get breast cancer too. According to breast cancer UK 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year compared to 56,000 woman. Awareness must be inclusive. Early detection saves lives — for everyone.

🧠💖 This month, let’s wear pink and talk openly.
Let’s check in on each other. Let’s share stories. Let’s fight stigma.
Because healing is more than survival — it’s being seen, heard, and supported.

A helpful reminder for any parent. If your child can't tell you in words, they will often use their behaviour to let you know how they’re feeling. This might come out as anger.

Underneath these behaviours, a young person who seems very angry may also be feeling things like fear, stress, sadness, hurt or worry – or might be struggling to cope with a difficult experience at school, at home or in another part of their life that they feel unable to talk about.

It can be helpful to remember that a person who’s feeling angry a lot of the time probably isn’t feeling very happy – and while it might not be obvious, what they often need is support. Supporting children and young people to put their feelings into words can help them to feel less overwhelming, making it less likely that they will need to act out.

About Us

Cannock Chase District is a very positive proactive community supporting all of our community. This group is a networking group to help improve communication between statutory, private and voluntary service providers to ensure that we know what is going on, when and where, in our district. This information can then be passed on to service users. We aim to be more effective in applying for funds in future, supporting new groups as well as existing members and ultimately providing a better provision for our service users.
