Forest of the Mind Counselling - Herefordshire

Forest of the Mind Counselling - Herefordshire Forest of the Mind Counselling is the work of myself, Lauren. Person Centred Counsellor in Herefordshire and member of the BACP.

I offer a safe, therapeutic space built on acceptance and empathy. I value each person as they are and listen sensitively to their experiences, helping them explore fears, build confidence, and make self-directed changes toward becoming their true self. I’m a UK trained, BACP registered person-centred counsellor with experience in both charities and private practice. I’ve worked with people facing

stress, anxiety, low mood, self-esteem challenges, life transitions, grief, loss, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I also bring personal insight from living with autistic adults and children, over a decade of supporting unpaid family carers and a strong understanding the unique pressures that can come from rural and farming life, too. Starting counselling can feel like a big step — I’m here to make that journey feel a little easier, one step at a time. Sessions are available in person, online and via telephone.

Safety isn’t just spoken, it’s felt.

Like a horse resting its head in a human’s lap, trust only emerges where there is true psychological *and* physical safety. That quiet moment of surrender doesn’t happen by chance — it’s built through consistency, attunement, and respect.

In person-centred counselling, the therapeutic relationship becomes that safe space. When someone feels deeply heard, accepted without judgment, and free from harm, they can begin to lower their guard… and healing can start.

Safety isn’t an “extra” — it’s the foundation. 🐎💛

In these photos you can see a young person resting beside a horse. The horse then stands, offering quiet safety. An anxious filly is drawn in, then settles too. In the end, horse and human mirror each other—calm, grounded, at ease.

Like horses, we’re drawn to regulated, safe presence—not because we’re told to be calm, but because calm is felt.

The herd doesn’t force safety—it senses it.
🌿 Maybe that’s our invitation too 🌿

Support networks matter 👥🌱

From a person-centred perspective, it’s not just about having people around you. It’s about having spaces where you feel truly heard, accepted, and understood without judgement.

From a person-centred counselling perspective, the quality of connection matters more than the quantity. One genuine relationship, grounded in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, can be more healing than a room full of people who don’t really see you.

Support isn’t about fixing or advising. It’s about being with someone as they make sense of their own experience—at their own pace, in their own way.

If you’re part of someone’s support network, sometimes the most powerful thing you can offer is simple: presence, patience, and real listening.

And if you’re seeking support, you deserve spaces where you can be fully yourself—no masks, no pressure, no need to be anything other than who you are. 💬

Sunday stillness 🌿🐎

There’s something quietly profound about watching horses at rest. No striving. No pretense. Just presence.

In the spirit of Carl Rogers’ philosophy, this is what it means to truly *be*—to exist without conditions of worth, without the pressure to perform or prove. Horses embody this effortlessly, they invite us to do the same.

They don’t ask us to be anything other than authentic. They respond not to our words, but to our inner state—gently guiding us back to congruence, to honesty, to self-acceptance.

Maybe that’s what self-care looks like today:
Not doing more, but softening into who you already are.

Resting, like they do.
Grounded. Present. Enough. 🤍

"People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, 'Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.' I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds."

Taking time to pause and gently reflect offers space to reconnect with yourself and your lived experience. Slowing down creates the opportunity to notice what you are truly feeling and needing, rather than simply responding to external pressures.
This pause can help restore balance, reduce the risk of burnout, and realign your choices with your authentic self. It is not avoidance or inactivity, but a compassionate and empowering act of self-awareness that supports clearer thinking, more congruent decision-making, and ongoing personal growth.

✨ A New Year, the Same You – and That’s Enough ✨

As we step into a new year, there’s often pressure to fix, change, or reinvent ourselves.
From a person-centred perspective, inspired by Carl Rogers, I want to gently offer something different.

Rogers believed that growth happens not through harsh self-criticism, but through empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. In other words, meaningful change begins when we feel truly accepted — just as we are.

This year doesn’t have to be about becoming someone new.
It can be about listening more deeply to yourself, trusting your inner wisdom, and creating space for growth at your own pace.

In my counselling work, I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you don’t need to perform, explain, or have all the answers. Just as Rogers taught, I believe you are the expert on your own life.

If 2025 feels like a time to reconnect with yourself rather than push yourself harder, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.

🌱 “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” — Carl Rogers
