A first for me today! As a volunteer Harp Therapist at St Michael’s Hospice I joined forces with their volunteer Art Therapist, Rachel, Ash Art. I played therapeutic harp music while the participants were invited to create a painting to translate how the music made them feel, or what they may be visualizing. The paintings were astounding, showing a consistent theme of nature – water, fish swimming, swirling patterns, floating clouds, the wind blowing trees, flowers swaying, a windswept moor and butterflies flitting around flowers. I was then invited to play back interpreting these paintings musically (gulp!) but I was amazed at how these paintings guided me to do this when I just let go of any need to try too hard. I can’t wait to do this again…thanks to SMH for giving people the opportunity to be involved in this today.
