Vitamin C is more than just immune support in those dark cold winter months.
Probably one of the most overlooked vitamins.
It’s involved in immune defence, collagen production, wound healing ❤️🩹 iron absorption, antioxidant protection, histamine protection and tissue repair - which means it can be relevant for more than just colds.
Vitamin C is essential for:
• Supporting immune function
Helps white blood cells function properly and supports the body during infection and recovery.
Collagen production
Needed for healthy skin, joints, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, gums and wound healing.
• Antioxidant protection
Helps protect cells from oxidative stress (which can be increased by inflammation, intense training, illness, smoking, stress and environmental exposures).
Histamine regulation
Vitamin C may help support the breakdown of excess histamine, which can be relevant in some allergy-prone or inflammatory presentations.
Iron absorption
Especially important for those with low ferritin or iron deficiency, as vitamin C improves absorption of non-haem iron from plant foods and supplements.
Stress and adrenal demand
The adrenal glands contain high concentrations of vitamin C, and demand can increase during periods of physical or emotional stress.
🧡 Fun Fact - There’s more vitamin c in a pepper 🫑 than there is in an orange 🍊
