A lot of people find the thought of meal planning overwhelming and imagine it means spending all day Sunday in the kitchen cooking and having to eat leftovers all week! But actually meal planning can really help you to feel more organised in the kitchen, more in control of what you are eating, and less stressed. It also puts an end to the dreaded ' what am I going to have for dinner?' thoughts that always seem to be at 6PM when there is no food in the fridge.
Meal planning and meal prepping are not the same thing - just having a rough plan of what you will cook each day and knowing you have everything you need in the fridge/cupboard will help reduce last minute takeaways and help you make healthier choices.
Meal prep will help even further by having either those building blocks ready to go or whole meals in the freezer for when you need it most.

Quick fixes for weight loss may seem tempting, but for women in perimenopause, they can do more harm than good. Rapid weight loss can lead to muscle loss, hormonal imbalances, and a slowed metabolism — all of which make long-term weight management even harder.
There are many life-impacting symptoms of perimenopause but the one that brings most of my clients to seek help is the stubborn weight gain that starts to accumulate around the middle in the 40's/50's. This extra weight can affect women's self-confidence, having an impact on many areas of their life. The immediate response is often to crash diet or restrict whole food groups , usually with little effect which leaves them frustrated and feeling worse than before.

Instead, we focus on a sustainable, balanced approach: nourishing foods, strength training, stress management, and plenty of rest.
This helps support your hormones, build lean muscle, and keep your metabolism steady. We would also focus on all aspects of your wellbeing, not just the number on the scales.

Last nights Chicken Schwarma was super quick and easy. Here’s the recipe:

4 garlic cloves
crushed
3 tbsp olive oil
1 lemon
juiced
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp ground coriander
2 tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp chilli powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tbsp natural yogurt
4 chicken breasts
Additional veg (I used red onion, pepper and courgette)
Pearl couscous to serve alongside

Combine all the marinade ingredients, cut the chicken into small pieces. Marinade for at least 1 hr(I left overnight)

Cook the chicken pieces in a hot pan with some olive oil, about halfway through I added chopped red onion, peppers and courgette.

Whilst the chicken and veg are cooking I boiled some pearl couscous.

Serve together with some chopped parsley and pomegranate seeds.
Done in less than 20 min.

Chocolate caramel cheesecake made in preparation for tomorrow😋 This is not my usual type of meal prep, and there is nothing healthy about this cheesecake.
I won’t be thinking about healthy choices tomorrow and when the festivities are over I’ll go back to my usual way of eating without any crazy dieting or restrictions on what I eat. This is what balance means for me and what I try to help clients to achieve throughout the year. Get in touch if you’d like the recipe!

More fermenting this week! This is daikon which is a Japanese radish, also called mooli.
I include it as x part of my kimchi recipe but I found a recipe for daikon with garlic, ginger and honey.
This will take a week or so to ferment then I can keep it in the fridge.

Fermenting your vegetables as well as eating raw and cooked veg brings extra health benefits.
Packed with probiotics, they help balance your gut microbiome, improve digestion, and support overall health. A healthy gut not only boosts digestion and immunity, but it also plays a role in mood, metabolism, and reducing inflammation.
I try and Incorporate foods like kimchi, kefir, and fermented veg into my diet as often as possible.
If you’d like some ideas for ways that you can include more of these foods let me know!
