🌟 New System for Annual Reviews – Medlink is Coming! 🌟
BMG patients, from April 2026, Bay Medical Group will be trailing a new way to manage your long-term condition reviews through a service called Medlink, a system designed to make it easier for you to complete your annual review.
Medlink is being used in many GP Practices across the country with success💡🩺✨

💻 How Does It Work?
📅 Around your birthday month, you’ll receive an email or text with a secure link to your personalised health questionnaire for your review.
📞 If you don’t use email or text, you’ll get an automated call asking you to contact the surgery.
📱 You can complete your questionnaire review easily online using your phone, tablet or computer.
🧪 Depending on your condition(s), you may still need a quick visit for tests such as bloods or foot checks.
👩‍⚕️ Once everything is reviewed, a clinician will confirm if your review is complete or if a follow-up is needed.

❤️ Why are we doing this?
Medlink helps us collect all your health information efficiently and at the same time — meaning your appointment will be a complete review of all your long-term illness(s) and a smoother process for you! This will help avoid appointment duplication.
We are trailing for 3 months, concentrating on our April, May, June birth date reviews, with a view to using permanently.

📞 Not online? No problem!
When you receive your invite, just call 01524 235900 (Option 1) to book your review the traditional way.

We’re excited to bring this new system to Bay Medical Group to make your care even better! 🌈👏

🌿 BMG Patients – Important Update on ‘Over the Counter’ Medicines 💊
Did you know that prescribing of ‘over the counter’ medicines for minor health conditions such as coughs 🤧, hay fever 🌼 and mild pain 💢 has now changed?
Like all GP practices across England, BMG will no longer routinely prescribe these medicines, as they can be safely bought over the counter with advice from your pharmacist.
💷 Why the change?
Because these items are costing the NHS millions every year — and savings made will go towards vital treatments, such as cancer 🎗️ and dementia care 🧠.
💊 What you should do:
• Your local pharmacy is a great first place to go for advice — no appointment needed! Pharmacists can suggest the best over-the-counter treatment or guide you if you need more care.
• Keep some basic self-care items at home (e.g., pain relief, indigestion remedies, first-aid supplies).
👩‍⚕️ In some cases — e.g. long-term conditions — we may still prescribe.
We understand this may have an impact on those on tighter budgets 💙, but please know every penny saved will go back into patient care and help protect our NHS for the future. 💪

📞💬 BMG patients, have you ever phoned or called into reception to check on a loved one’s lab test results or asked if their prescription was ready… and been told ❌ "Sorry, we can only speak to the patient"?

We understand this can be frustrating — but it's to protect patient confidentiality. 🛡️💙

👥 If a patient wants a family member, friend or carer to be a point of contact on their medical record, we can absolutely do this — we just need the correct documentation ✅

📝 This is called a 3rd Party Consent to Medical Records Form.
It lets us know we have permission to speak with someone on the patient’s behalf.

👉 You can pick up a consent form at reception. Where possible, both the patient and the nominated contact need to be present when it’s filled out (unless the patient is housebound). Once this documentation is received and checked , we will add an alert to your medical record stating who we can talk with , on your behalf.

📂 Putting this in place helps us make sure your personal medical information stays private and protected.

🔍 MYTH-BUSTING: SMEAR TESTS & HPV 💉💬

BMG patients, let’s talk about something super important — your cervical screening (smear test) 💙
And no, it’s not just for certain people — it’s for YOU 👈 if you’ve been invited!

HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is a very common virus that can lead to changes in the cervix and sometimes cervical cancer. That’s why regular smear tests are essential — they check for high-risk HPV types before any issues can develop. ✅

Let’s bust some common myths together 👇

❌ Myth: I’ve had the HPV vaccine so I don’t need a smear test
✅ Fact: The HPV vaccine protects against 9 strains, but there are 14 high-risk types linked to cervical cancer. So yes, you still need regular smear tests even if you’re vaccinated! 💉🧪

❌ Myth: HPV isn’t common
✅ Fact: Around 80–90% of people will come into contact with HPV in their lifetime! 😮 Most never know they had it because the immune system often clears it on its own. 💪

❌ Myth: You only get HPV if you’re s*xually active or have had lots of partners
✅ Fact: HPV is spread through any skin-to-skin contact of the ge***al area — even touching, oral, or sharing s*x toys. It’s not about the number of partners. ✋❤️

❌ Myth: If someone has HPV, they’ve been unfaithful
✅ Fact: HPV can lie dormant for years — even decades! You can catch it from just one encounter. A positive result is not a sign of cheating. 💬🔍

💡 Smear tests save lives — don’t let myths stop you from booking yours! If you’ve received your invite, book it today. 💙
