Introducing… THE WALL.

The very first artist to leave her mark is the enchanting Joanna Allen

Jo is an artist, printmaker, and textile designer from New Mills. Her work is as soft as clouds, as sweet as Swizzels, and she’s a truly magnificent choice to begin THE WALL’s journey into the monument it was always destined to become.

You might even catch Jo in action—she’ll be working on the piece throughout the day from time to time. So if you pop in for a brew and get lucky, you could see her in her happy place.

Jo’s incredible work will be showcased on THE WALL throughout 2026.

And in 2027… a new talented artist will step into the arena.

So take it in, enjoy it...while you can.

I’m so proud of the creativity unfolding in my sessions at the moment.

One of my Year 10 students has been coming along each week and is fully engaged in the work we’re doing together. By tapping into his personal interests, from music inspiration to a growing love of graphic design and photography, he’s made a fantastic start on our “Things Dipped in Things” project and is really finding his creative voice.

What makes these sessions even more special is that his mum joins him. She’s working towards her Photography GCSE, and together they make a brilliant team.

Watching their creativity grow side by side, and sharing that mother-and-son bonding time, is a real joy 💚

Last Saturday, we explored mono printing in the studio, and it was such a brilliant session. One of my A-level helpers shared what they’re currently learning at college and decided to lead part of the workshop for our younger artists, which was just wonderful to see.

Moments like this remind me how special our art clubs really are. Seeing young creatives supporting and inspiring each other is what it’s all about.

So many wonderful things are happening, and I truly couldn’t do it without the help of all our amazing young people, and most of all, , for everything she does. 💛

Learn about a variety of artists and art styles. Experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques.

Enjoy a LEGO corner, plus LEGO-themed art activities. Create a Tom Gates–inspired wall art piece, guided step by step so everyone can succeed. Explore lots of other exciting themes inspired by children’s interests
Build confidence, creativity and imagination, And most importantly… have lots of fun.

What to bring:
Old clothes (it will get messy)
A packed lunch and a couple of snacks
Clothing suitable for all weather, as we’ll be getting some fresh air during the day.
