Friday Voices of Care with Olivia! 💙

We asked Olivia some questions about what she loved about being a carer, any challenges she faces and a piece of advice she would give to a new carer. Here's what she said:

"my favourite thing about being a carer is the people i go and see. I see them all like my great big family and i care for them. I enjoy seeing their faces light up when i walk into the room, me and my clients all have fantastic laughs together and they will never be forgotten, when they no longer need me, or if i decide to move on. "

"the hardest part about being a carer is when someone whom i’ve spent my time with has to go away for a while, or if i start to see new people on different rounds. Like i have said previously, when i start to build bonds with people i enjoy their company as much as they enjoy mine. When i start moving from round to round, i tend to miss my time with some people that i see on the weekly basis. However, i do enjoy meeting new people and creating new bonds."

"advice i would give to new carers is to just be themselves. Being yourself if the main part of the job, as you are less likely to create good working relationships on a persona that isn’t you. Whether you’re younger like i am or older than me, people prefer it when you are open and can hold a good conversation. You have to be able to build the trust with the people that you will be seeing on a daily basis. "

Olivia is one of our younger carers at Carewatch Norfolk, and its lovely to see the compassion and care the younger generation continue to execute!

Voices of Care: What Care Means to Me 💜

Care is one of the most powerful forces in our society. It is the thread that connects families, strengthens communities, and supports people to live with dignity, independence, and purpose.

For many carers, both paid professionals and those who care for loved ones at home, “care” is more than a job or responsibility. It is a deeply personal experience, shaped by compassion, resilience, and the desire to make a difference.

As part of our Voices of Care series, we’re shining a light on what care truly means to the people who give and receive it every day.

💙 Why social media and marketing matter in care💙

When people think about care, social media and marketing aren’t always the first things that come to mind. But working within the care sector, Universal Care Services has seen first-hand just how powerful a strong online presence really is.

Social media isn’t “just posting”, it’s about storytelling, transparency, trust and connection. Care is deeply personal. Families don’t just want a service; they want reassurance, values, compassion and confidence that their loved ones will be truly cared for. Social media allows us to show who we are, not just what we do.

At Universal Care Services, marketing gives us a voice. It allows us to highlight the incredible dedication of our staff, celebrate milestones, share achievements, and showcase the genuine culture of care that exists behind the scenes every single day. These aren’t just posts, they’re real moments, real people, and real stories that deserve to be seen.

For potential service users and families, our social media presence helps remove uncertainty. It reassures them that we are active, professional, compliant, and genuinely passionate about delivering high‑quality care. Seeing consistent updates, educational content, community involvement and positive messages builds confidence long before a phone call is ever made.

For staff and future team members, marketing is just as important. Social media allows us to show what it feels like to work at Universal Care Services, our values, our training, our support systems, and our appreciation for the people who make our services possible. In an industry where recruitment and retention are so important, visibility and authenticity matter more than ever.

Marketing in care also allows us to educate, not just advertise. Whether we’re sharing information about safeguarding, awareness days, health and safety, or day‑to‑day life in care every post is an opportunity to raise awareness and challenge outdated perceptions of the care sector.

Care deserves to be seen, valued and understood, and social media gives us the platform to do exactly that. 💙

Friday Voices Of Care With Lizzie! 💙

This week we spoke to Lizzie, Universal Care Services Operations Manager! Lizzie worked her way up through the ranks in care, starting as a carer herself and then moving to Registered manager and now Operations Manager! If anyone knows Care its Lizzie!

We asked her some questions about her time in care and why operations is so important for a business:

One challenge you faced as a carer? "managing time effectively when supporting multiple clients with different needs. There were occasions when visits overran due to unforeseen circumstances, such as a client becoming distressed or unwell. This required me to stay calm, prioritise the person’s wellbeing, communicate promptly with the office, and adjust the rest of my visits while still maintaining a high standard of care for everyone. It helped me develop strong time‑management, problem‑solving, and communication skills"

One thing you loved about being a carer? "One thing I loved about being a carer was meeting with new people I supported. Being able to make a positive difference in someone’s day, whether through conversation, reassurance, or helping them maintain their independence, was incredibly rewarding."

Why is Operations so important for a Home Care Company? "Operations are vital in a care company because they ensure care is delivered safely, consistently, and on time. Strong operations link care planning, staffing, communication, and compliance so people receive the right care at the right time, while staff feel supported and the service remains safe and reliable."

What is one piece of advice you would give to new carers? "My advice to new carers would be to always treat people with kindness, patience, and respect — small actions can make a big difference. Take your time to genuinely listen and get to know the people you support. Compassion and empathy are just as important as the practical care. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for support. No one expects you to know everything straight away, and learning is part of becoming a great carer. Be kind to yourself. Caring is rewarding but can be challenging, and it’s okay to learn as you go."

Some of our carers wont have met or spoken to Lizzie, but she helps the business run smoothly every day! 💙

Equality and Diversity in the Workplace: Why it matters in Health & Social Care 💜

Creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued and able to be themselves is essential.

Equality and diversity play a vital role in health and social care, shaping how we work together as colleagues and how we support the people who rely on our services every day.

In a sector built on compassion, trust and human connection, embracing difference helps us deliver safer, more responsive and more person-centred care. Recent Commendation from Ipswich! 💙

Earlier this week, Sammie reached out to us asking if we could give a shout out to her manager Emma, this is what she said!

"In recognition of her unwavering commitment, compassion, and dedication to both the team and the carers she supports.
Regardless of everything going on around her, Emma consistently remains a calm, reliable, and supportive presence. She is always there to offer guidance, reassurance, and practical help, ensuring that both staff and carers feel valued and supported. Her ability to stay focused and positive, even during challenging times, makes a real difference to day‑to‑day operations and team morale.
Emma goes above and beyond her role, never hesitating to step in when support is needed. Her professionalism, empathy, and strong work ethic set an excellent example for others and truly reflect the values of our organisation.
For her continued dedication and the positive impact she has on everyone around her, Emma is thoroughly deserving of this commendation"

Thank you Emma, for all you do and all those you support. You are a true asset to the team and the company. We recognise your hard work!🎉 🥂

Friday Voices Of Care With Ruth - Our field care supervisor at Coleshill!💙

We asked Ruth some questions about her time in care and what she loves about the role, here is what she told us:

"I started my journey with universal care on 7th September 2023 with the Early response team. I worked in the South Solihull area on evenings, six evenings a week and worked every other weekend.
Unfortunately, I was struggling with my neck and was booked into the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on 18th December, this was then cancelled but the management team at Universal Care supported me to continue working until I eventually went in hospital 14th February 2024.
The Management team rang and checked up on my recovery which was just over 12 weeks.
I was then given the sad news from my consultant that maybe care was not for me long term, so I contacted Nisha the Registered Manager who had many conversations with me about joining the office team, I started in the office as a part time Field care Supervisor and loved the position. One of the team was leaving to go on maternity and I was offered to work full time. I was over the moon to not only be supported but to be given the chance to show my full potential."

"In my role I love to go out and meet our new clients and our new staff. Its always nice to put a name to a face and get to know the people we are supporting. I love to support the coordinators in the office and really enjoy being part of a team where we all balance each other out.
The most difficult challenge I face is losing clients that I have been out to visit especially when its not expected. We can often speak to our service users many times a week and we get used to each other so its always upsetting when they are poorly or we lose them. I find that aspect quite difficult."

"I have worked in care since 2004 totalling 22 years of many different roles and services. I love to help people and like to find ways to make their day a little better. I started as a community carer and have worked as a coordinator and a regional manager for a Learning disability service too. I have settled in my job as a FCS as it allows me a good balance of community and office based work.
My one piece of advice to new carers is just treat your clients as you would like your parents/family treated. You are sometimes the only person they see in a day so try to make that little time with them worthwhile."

Ruth is a huge asset to our Coleshill Team and it has been eye opening to hear her story!
