Further to my earlier post , my governing body (the Sports Massage Association) has been in consultation with the government. Since I hold a Level 5 qualification (almost degree equivalent) and operate within a registered healthcare venue I will now be allowed to open my practice and offer treatments during this lockdown. The only further requirement is that I will have to undertake a pre-treatment phone conversation with you to ascertain that your reason for having a session is a medical one (eg. for pain / tension relief) and not purely for relaxation purposes. .

I will be offering treatments from Monday 9th November and will open up my online booking system shortly. However before I do that I would like to offer those whose treatments were cancelled in November a chance to have their booked appointment back again (or an alternative one). Hence I will be in touch via email to see if you would like your appointments reinstated (feel free to contact me as well). Otherwise please check my online booking system shortly.

Any further questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Following the latest advice from the government and my professional association (the Sports Massage Association), as a result of the second lockdown I will have to temporarily close my practice from this Thursday until the 2nd of December.

For all of those who have booked in for treatments on Monday (today), Tuesday and Wednesday this week - they will go ahead as planned. Unfortunately I will have to cancel all treatments from this Thursday onwards, and I will issue full refunds for those who have already paid. Some of you have booked treatments for after the 2nd of December and I will leave these in place for now.

The guidelines are being updated regularly, and I will await advice from my professional association. If anything changes I will be in touch.

I would like to thank you all for your support since reopening in July after the first lockdown - I have been pretty much fully booked the entire period so I would like to convey my gratitude to all of you.

And finally I wish you well over the next few weeks, stay healthy and safe and see you on the other side of the lockdown.

I am on the end of the phone (or email) if any of you need any free advice regarding stretches or self care so do not hesitate to get in touch.

I have been open for a week now, and it has been great to welcome back existing Clients for their long awaited treatment, as well as meet new ones. I am following strict protocol as required by my professional association with respect to COVID-19 and this has been working very well. My online booking system is open and up to date.

Update (England)

According to the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, "beauty salons, nail bars, tattoo and massage studios, physical therapy businesses and spas across England will be able to reopen safely from Monday 13 July under new government plans, announced today (9 July)."

Whilst this is extremely positive it is important that clarity on return to work is central to enabling our industry to safely resume their practices. The GCMT will continue to monitor the guidance and update accordingly.

Today Scottish Sports Massage therapists can resume work:

“… the Scottish Government’s Business and Social Distancing Team … have been informed that professional Sports Massage, particularly for pain, can be considered a professional vocational Medical Service, so it would currently be permissible under the guidance … that you can reopen your business.”

Lets hope that the English government follows soon, watch this space.........

With the lock down easing - hairdressers, pubs and restaurants are all able to open but I am still unable to open my business and clinic as a Sports Massage Therapist. Even though I have carried out risk assessments, with PPE and strict protocols in place. The government classifies my profession as a 'massage parlour' which has negative connotations and is misleading as most of the work I do is to relieve pain and encourage easier movement for a lot of people suffering from tightness and stress. This situation has grabbed the attention of the BBC in the article below. A lot of great therapists are going to go bankrupt and change profession, along with lots of artists performers and musicians. This will be a great loss.........

Spas and complementary therapists say they will not survive the pandemic if they cannot reopen.

Further to the governments announcement on 23/6/20, we are still not able to open our clinic. Please watch this space for any updates and we will be back as soon as we can.
