October is National Cholesterol Month, but what is cholesterol and how does it affect us?
Cholesterol is a fatty substance, that the body requires, which is carried in the blood by lipoproteins. Healthy sources include eggs, shellfish and organ meats.
However in some cases someone's cholesterol might be too high and need lowering.
Examples of ways to reduce cholesterol include:
- consuming more oily fish, olive oil, wholegrain, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables
- increasing exercise
- limiting processed foods, fatty meats, hard and cream cheeses, alcohol
- smoking cessation
An example of a supplement which has been clinically tested and shown to lower cholesterol is Cardio Smile. This supplement contains Plant Sterols which are naturally occurring compounds in plants. They have a structure alike to cholesterol and compete with the 'bad' LDL cholesterol for absorption helping reduce said cholesterol.
We sell Cardio Smile Cholesterol Supplements and have some sachet samples available. Watch the video to see Andy trying some!
