Hordle Equine Assisted Learning

Hordle Equine Assisted Learning Hi, I'm Kim Johnson, married with two grown up daughters. I am a qualified English teacher and Equine Assisted Learning Practitioner.

I have had a varied career history: formerly holding senior management positions in the fashion industry, then teaching for over 10 years in the public and private sector. I am now lucky enough to be able to combine my passion for teaching and helping people with my love of horses and have set up Hordle Equine Assisted Learning to do just that. Over the many years that I have spent with horses, I have come to realise the special connection that equines have with humans. It is a privilege to do this work and to reach out to people with many and varied challenges in their lives. I also care for my elderly mum, dog sit and tutor English, and in my spare time I like to ride, swim, walk in nature, go dancing, write stories and read. It's a busy but fulfilling life!

Found this amazing nest, unfortunately it had been blown out of a tree. It’s so beautifully made - looks like something you could wear to Ascot on ladies day 😂and I recognise the hair lining - a bit from each of my moulting ponies. That’s nature’s recycling.

There must be something in the air today - everyone is super chilled. I’ve abandoned my agenda, which can be a good idea once in a while and I’m just going to hang out with these guys

Having deliberated for some time as to when and how to introduce Monty to Toshy, the pack leader, they clearly decided to take matters into their own hands or hooves. Arrived today to find the temporary fencing trampled down and the four of them together with no dramas. Sometimes we overthink things 🤔😂 Hopefully happy herd ❤️

My little wild yearling pony Monty reminds me that it's good to do brave things. Here he is stepping out of his comfort zone to accept and even invite human contact, with his friend Ginger-Pickle alongside for support of course. At HEAL, we are here to support you to face your challenges and to help you to build a little courage - just like Monty. Get in touch if you would like to find out more. Sending love

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday ponies soggy and soaked, today chilling in the sun. Hats off to all those looking after our equine friends through the winter months, the rain, the mud, the wind, the difficult riding conditions and even worse trying to push a wheelbarrow through the gloop. Today is a taste of what’s to come. Hang on in there- Spring is around the corner xx

The Horses

By Ted Hughes
I climbed through woods in the hour-before-dawn dark.
Evil air, a frost-making stillness,

Not a leaf, not a bird,—
A world cast in frost. I came out above the wood

Where my breath left tortuous statues in the iron light.
But the valleys were draining the darkness

Till the moorline—blackening dregs of the brightening grey—
Halved the sky ahead. And I saw the horses:

Huge in the dense grey—ten together—
Megalith-still. They breathed, making no move,

With draped manes and tilted hind-hooves,
Making no sound.

I passed: not one snorted or je**ed its head.
Grey silent fragments

Of a grey silent world.

I listened in emptiness on the moor-ridge.
The curlew's tear turned its edge on the silence.

Slowly detail leafed from the darkness. Then the sun
Orange, red, red erupted

Silently, and splitting to its core tore and flung cloud,
Shook the gulf open, showed blue,

And the big planets hanging—
I turned

Stumbling in the fever of a dream, down towards
The dark woods, from the kindling tops,

And came to the horses.
There, still they stood,
But now steaming and glistening under the flow of light,

Their draped stone manes, their tilted hind-hooves
Stirring under a thaw while all around them

The frost showed its fires. But still they made no sound.
Not one snorted or stamped,

Their hung heads patient as the horizons,
High over valleys, in the red levelling rays—

In din of the crowded streets, going among the years, the faces,
May I still meet my memory in so lonely a place

Between the streams and the red clouds, hearing curlews,
Hearing the horizons endure.
