Grangewood Care Home Our dedicated team provides high-quality residential, dementia and short-term respite care

Grangewood is a bright and welcoming care home offering gold standard residential care for older people, including those living with dementia. The purpose-built care home is set in the village of Shiney Row, close to Houghton-le-Spring in Tyne and Wear. The home has a strong community atmosphere and is close to the local village library, medical centre and various churches. There's also a post office and a pub on the doorstep, and good transport links, which all helps residents to retain their independence. All of the bedrooms at Grangewood have en-suite facilities and are stylishly furnished. Your loved one is welcome to bring their own treasured possessions and items of furniture to help them to feel more at home.

Thrilling Thursday at Grangewood! ✨

What a fantastic day we’ve had, filled with smiles, laughter, and meaningful moments! 💛

Our morning was full of sensory games, stimulating minds and encouraging connection, creativity, and plenty of fun. From tactile activities to memory-based games, it was wonderful to see everyone so engaged and enjoying themselves.

We then headed out for a lovely wellness outing, making the most of the fresh air and a change of scenery. 🌿 There’s nothing better than getting out into the community and enjoying those special moments together.

To top it all off, we treated ourselves to some delicious food and drinks at our local café ☕🍰—sharing stories, laughter, and creating more beautiful memories.

Days like today remind us how important wellbeing, connection, and joy are in everything we do. 💫

Today at Grangewood we enjoyed a Wonderful Wellness Walk filled with fresh air, smiles, and great company 💚

Getting outdoors together is so important for both our physical health and emotional wellbeing. The gentle movement, conversations along the way, and chance to enjoy nature all help to lift our mood, reduce stress, and bring a real sense of calm and happiness 🌼

Our residents loved taking in the surroundings, sharing stories, and simply enjoying those special moments together. Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference 🥰

🌼 Wonderful Wednesday at Grangewood 🌼

Today we celebrate a truly special Wonderful Wednesday with our beautiful little ducklings 🐥💛

Over the past few weeks, they have brought so much joy, laughter, and comfort to our home. Watching them grow, waddle around, and interact with our residents has created such precious moments and lasting memories for us all.

Our residents have loved every second – from gentle cuddles to simply sitting and watching them, the positive impact on wellbeing, smiles, and conversations has been incredible 🥰

As they prepare to leave us tomorrow, we feel a little sad, but so grateful for the happiness they have brought into our home.

Thank you, little ducklings, for filling Grangewood with such warmth and joy – you will be truly missed 🐥💛

A Fond Farewell to Maddie 💐

Today we say a very special goodbye to Maddie, who has successfully completed her work experience here at Grangewood.

Maddie, it has been an absolute pleasure having you as part of our team. Your kindness, enthusiasm, and willingness to get involved have truly made a difference to both our residents and staff. You brought smiles, laughter, and such a positive energy into our home, and for that we are incredibly grateful.

You should be so proud of everything you have achieved during your time with us – you have shown real compassion and dedication, and we have no doubt you have a bright future ahead of you.

We will truly miss you, Maddie, but we hope this is not goodbye forever. You will always be part of the Grangewood family 💛

We took time to slow things down and truly enjoy the moment with relaxing wellness walks and creative arts and crafts 🌿🎨

Our wellness walks gave everyone the chance to get some fresh air, gentle movement, and peaceful time to connect with nature, while our arts and crafts session brought out creativity, conversation, and plenty of smiles.

These moments are so important for our health and wellbeing — supporting both mind and body, encouraging independence, and creating meaningful memories together.

Sometimes the best part of the day is simply stopping the clock and enjoying each other’s company 💛
