A quick heads-up to anyone due to visit me today – your safety always comes first.

This is the current condition of the farm track. The A68 is clear, though a bit slushy.

There’s around 2 inches of snow lying on top of frozen ground/ice, so if you’re unsure whether your vehicle can manage these conditions, please consider rescheduling your appointment.

Take care,
Tracy 💛

As I step into retirement from my own holistic therapy business, people have been asking, “what’s the very first self-care treatment I’m gifting myself?” (They've also been asking what else I plan to do with myself but that's another post entirely! 😉)

The answer to that, is, I’ll be making my way up into the Lammermuir Hills, taking the road below, to see Liffy (Elisabeth) at Natural Wellness Scottish Borders for a Neal’s Yard Remedies Holistic Facial!

After years of holding space for others, it feels right to begin this next chapter by receiving, slowing down, nurturing myself and enjoying the kind of holistic care I’ve always believed in.

If you’re in the Scottish Borders and looking for thoughtful, high-quality holistic treatments, a visit to see Liffy at airhouses luxury self catering is very much worth a visit.

The first of many regular self-care rituals to come, from Oxton to Pencaitland, Hawick to Edinburgh and I am looking forward to them all!

Did you know, that sucking on a dark chocolate square can calm the cough reflex, soothe the throat and mildly relax the airways, making it a surprisingly effective natural aid for dry, tickly coughs?

One of my lovely clients, who is a Respiratory Nurse, suggested this when I recently spoke to her on the phone, whilst I was unwell.

Sucking on a dark chocolate square can genuinely help with a dry, tickly cough, and there’s some science behind it, though it is well to remember it is a supportive remedy rather than a cure.

Dark chocolate (70% minimum recommended) contains theobromine, a compound also found in cacao. Theobromine helps suppress the cough reflex and can calm the vagus nerve, which is involved in triggering coughing.

When you slowly suck a piece of dark chocolate, the melted cacao/cocoa butter coats the throat, which in turn, can help reduce irritation of the throat lining, helping to relieve the “tickle” that triggers coughing.

Sucking chocolate increases saliva, which helps keep the throat moist, reduces dryness and helps soothe inflamed mucous membranes, as a moist throat is less likely to trigger cough reflexes.

High cacao dark chocolate also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, as a result of the flavonoids found within.

And lets face it, as well as the comforting effect from the stimulated release of all those lovely endorphins, who doesn't love chocolate!

Happy New Year! 💛

When a family Wellbeing Day at the Edinburgh Salt Rooms seems like a perfect opportunity to make snow (salt) angels!

Salt therapy (halotherapy) offers so many gentle yet powerful benefits, supporting the respiratory system, helping to clear airways, easing skin conditions, boosting immunity, and encouraging deep relaxation. The mineral-rich salt air can also help calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and promote better sleep, something we can all benefit from, adults and children alike.

What I loved most was seeing how naturally everyone slowed down. Breathing softened, shoulders dropped, minds became quieter. True wellbeing isn’t just about one treatment or one moment — it’s about creating space to regulate, reconnect, and restore together.

Moments like these remind me how important it is to nurture the whole family’s wellbeing, body, mind, and nervous system, in simple, natural ways.

A gentle Hogmanay reset for all the family!

Highly recommend!

My final client newsletter is landing in inboxes today.

It includes a heartfelt message and a last chance to book a holistic therapy session for January, before I retire at the end of the month.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with their wellbeing over the years, it has truly been an honour.

If you’ve been thinking “I must book one more session”, now is the time. January appointments are limited.

My apologies to everyone whose appointments have had to be cancelled this weekend. I’ve been struck down with a post-Christmas lurgy that has really knocked me off my feet, and I need to take a little time to fully recover before returning to treatments.

When I feel up to making them, I always turn to my homemade immune-boosting shots of lemon, ginger and turmeric (raw honey optional).

To make: add a handful of fresh turmeric bulbs, one large ginger root (approx. 6–7 oz) and one sweet apple to a juicer. Squeeze in 3–4 large organic lemons, mix well, and store in the fridge in a lidded glass jar or bottle. It will keep for 2–3 days.

Serve in a shot glass with a grating of fresh black pepper.

(If you don’t have a juicer, simply blend everything in a liquidiser and strain through a muslin cloth.)

Thank you so much for your understanding and patience.

One of the final Mini-Me for Well-being experiences today and I shall be sad not to be engaging with all the parent and Mini-Me’s in the future.

BUT if you’re on Instagram, pop on over to Joy's Organic Delight (she does more on Instagram than FB) as she is offering a Mini-Me from her salon in Musselburgh.

Have a fab day!
