Spirotech has recently designed, manufactured and installed two large diameter silos for a major worldwide chemical producer, in this instance for the production of rat poison.
The system designed by Spirotech comprises of two storage silos for wheat and flour, each with a storage capacity of 50m3 and suitable for bulk tanker filling by pressurised road tankers utilising an on-board blower.
Each silo is fitted with a reverse jet cleaned filter unit for venting the tanker conveying air and a pressure transmitter to monitor internal pressure. Installed on load cells, which provide a continuous indication of silo contents together with the facility for high and low level interlock set points, the silos are also fitted with a silo auto shut-off system to prevent dust emissions to atmosphere via the pressure relief valve on top of the silo. As the product being handled and stored is capable of forming explosive atmospheres due to the presence of combustible dust in cloud form, the silos are equipped with explosion protection in the form of explosion venting at roof level and all ancillary equipment and instruments fitted to the silos are ATEX certified.

Spirotech’s skilled engineers and installation team are never thwarted by a challenge. At our manufacturing facility in Cambridgeshire our team have designed and manufactured a 100m3 vertical process water tank for a leading food and beverage manufacture based in Northamptonshire.

Spirotech has recently completed the installation stage for a major north-eastern water company’s treatment facility. The contract was awarded to Spirotech as two very similar plants had previously been supplied to the same water authority eight years ago which have proved to be very reliable and efficient systems.

The project requirement was to design, manufacture, supply, deliver and mechanically install the equipment for a powder activated carbon system used to treat drinking water. The project design, manufacture and build included systems for storage, conveying and mixing. Powdered activated carbon (PAC) is used in the processing of drinking water at treatment facilities, primarily on a seasonal basis in order to deal with aesthetic problems with the water such as odour and taste issues associated with Geosmin and 2-MIB.

Local business and community working together – Spirotech Group help Cambridgeshire MS Therapy Centre

Spirotech Group was made aware of the issues that the Cambridgeshire MS therapy centre were facing in early May of this year.

The centre had some major challenges from the pandemic including soaring energy prices and a failing heating system which wouldn’t last another winter. The centre’s Chairman, Tim Barke, had real concerns for the future and their ability to continue to provide the much-needed service for MS patients and their families. Tim explained that the new boilers and repairs to the heating system would cost around £30,000, funds they simply didn’t have. Without any local or government funding they felt helpless.

Action was urgently needed!

The board at Spirotech decided they couldn’t see a local charity within the community face the possibility of closure. After explaining the issues to one of Spirotech’s own clients, another locally based company Environmental Product Solutions Ltd, the two businesses both agreed to help.

Following a meeting with the centre’s Tim Barke, it was agreed that Spirotech Group and Environmental Product Solutions would fund the new boiler system and the centre would fund the installation cost. To help with the installation costs, the local community generously stepped in by arranging a fund-raising garden party and a sponsored walk.
