Bust a myth Monday's is back! 💥

This week's topic- You can't have a natural birth after a c-section.

False! Many women go on to have a successful VBAC. This myth is because you are at higher risk of having a uterine rupture.

But what if I was to tell you that the risk is only 0.5%.

Medical professionals might only say 'there's a risk' without going into the figures. Once you know the figures, it doesn't sound as scary right?

Hypnobirthing strategies will help reduce the risk too!

Know your options, get all the facts, before making a decision.

Birth Partners a post for you!

Your role (or should I say roles) is essential during labour and birth. You have a very important role to play. Three actually.

✨The practical partner.

It's your job to make sure the car is packed, you've called the hospital ahead or set up the birthing room at home. Have a checklist made up to tick off once mum is in labour.

✨The protective partner.

You are the 'Keeper of the Cave'. Just like cave men protected the cave from danger, that's your role too! You need to be mums voice and her advocate. Make sure her choices and preferences are being followed as best as they can be.

✨The mindful partner.

Be mindful of mums choices. Give her words of encouragement when she's doubting herself. Ensure the room has dimmed lights and that her hypnobirthing is being respected and followed by all around. Show mum love and affectionate. This will help her during those difficult stages of labour.

On a full hypnobirthing course I don't just invite mums along but birth partners too. It's important for them just as much as mum.

Worried about tearing?

9/10 women will have a first degree tear for their first birth. This is a small tear that only affects the skin and sometimes doesn't require stitches. You will likely not even feel that you have torn because you are so focused and in your birth zone.

Less than 4% of women will have a third or fourth degree tear. These are deeper tears that affect the muscle too and will need stitches in theatre.

So when you hear that someone has torn during birth, it is likely they experienced a first degree tear. The perineum musles are incredibly strong and heal very well as long as you keep the area clean.

Tips to reduce major tears:
✨Pelvic floor exercises
✨Perineal massage
✨Water birth
✨NO coached pushing!
✨Optimal birth positions
✨Relaxed face = relaxed muscles 👇
