Job Summary
Abbey Lodge is a 23 bed care home in Hythe, Kent. The home has been running for 20 years and has gained one of the best reputations in the area for elderly residential care. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent care for each of our residents and in still that ethos into our staff. The home has lovely sea views of the English Channel and is on the A259 with good transport links.
We are looking to recruit a cook who has recent cooking experience in a commercial kitchen &/or is experienced at cooking for a large amount of people. All the food we provide to the residents is homemade, traditional British meals and cakes. We would like to find an individual who has some cooking flair and can cook food to a high standard with their own unique style. The person must also have the ethos to give the best of themselves in their work and commit to our ambition to an 'outstanding' rated home in the coming years. We strive to provide a supportive environment to work within, with management available daily to support you and allow you to provide the best food and service to the residents at Abbey Lodge.
We have a close knit team who know the home and this contributes to Abbey Lodge being an enjoyable and fun place to work. We support our team development and motivation by doing employee of the month and having staff night's out 1-2x a year.
The post is for 3 Days a week 7.30am - 2pm. Includes some weekend's & covering sickness/Annual Leave

Principle Responsibilities
• Supervision and preparation of the cooking and serving of delicious and nutritious hot and cold meals, as and when required for both Clients and Staff.
• Ensuring all meals are of the highest possible quality and attractively presented.
• Providing for special dietary requirements where necessary and taking into account the preferences of individual Clients.
• Portioning meals to Clients.
• Baking of a range of cakes for afternoon teas
• Stock Take and ordering
Communication:
• Liaising with the Home Manager when planning menus in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet, and making the best use of available fresh foods
• Liaising with senior carers when ordering weekly food supplies
• Maintaining accurate records of fridge and food temperatures
• Attending Staff meetings as required.
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
Essential
• Experience of cooking good quality meals for at least 20 people in a service setting/industry
• Fluent in English
Required one or more of the below:
·Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 or Level 3 Food Hygiene for Catering
·NVQ Level 2 Food and Beverage or NVQ Level 2 Food Preparation and Cooking OR Equivalent experience and willingness to study for these qualifications
·City & Guilds Levels 1 & 2 Certificate in Culinary Skills 7138 or 7100 OR Equivalent experience and willing to study for these qualifications
·Culinary skills for both cooking and baking
·Right to work in the UK
Desired
• Previous experience as a cook
• Experience in working/cooking in a care setting
