In the spring of 1859, on a stretch of land outside Savannah, Georgia the rain fell steadily for two days. The ground turned to mud beneath hundreds of waiting feet, and the sky hung low and gray over Ten Broeck Race Course. Francis Browne was an Irish Jesuit and a prolific photographer. His best-known photographs are those of the Titanic, passengers and crew, taken before its sinking in 1912. He disembarked in Ireland before it continued it’s voyage. They are the last known photographs aboard the Titanic, of course others took photos, but they were lost at sea. The first photo is of Douglas Spedden, a 10 year old boy playing on the deck who survived the sinking. Only to pass away 3 years later after being hit by a car. The second photo is the Titanic leaving Queenstown, Ireland and the last photo Browne took of the Titanic.
