The post partum period can be magical, delicious and deeply transformative, it can also bring up our buried pain and a sense of isolation.
This juxtaposition of light and dark can feel deeply overwhelming and confusing when our heart and soul is being poured into our children whilst desperately trying to look after yourself.
Its so easy to lay the blame on ourselves when the experience of motherhood doesn't quite live up to the expectation we had in our head but this experience isn't supposed to leave us unscathed. Motherhood does crack us open and even if if it doesn't feel like it now, you are stronger than you think you are.
Perhaps it's time to evaluate what you need around you to support you. Your shadows are a guide, let them lead you. To people who love you, community who support you and an environment that allow you to blossom.
If you are struggling I am here, I have been there and some days I am still there but talking has helped me through the most challenging times x

All the eggs a woman will ever carry form in her ovaries while she is a four-month-old fetus in the womb of her mother.

This means our cellular life as an egg begins
in the womb of our grandmother.

Each of us spent five months in our
grandmother’s womb, and she in turn
formed in the womb of her grandmother.

We vibrate to the rhythm of our mother’s blood before she herself is born, and this pulse is the thread of blood that runs all the way back through the grandmothers to the first mother.

A mother’s blessing is a beautiful way to honour the mother to be as she transitions to the next phase of her life. The focus is on the mother to be and she is held in an intimate setting with those she loves. The space is filled with flowers, candles and gifts are given reflecting this momentous passage into motherhood. Women who choose mothers blessings wish for a more intimate and spiritual approach to the modern baby shower and mothers come away feeling emotionally nourished and connected to those she loves. I love planning and holding these events for women, I love seeing the mothers to be blossom within the sacred space. If this is something you would like help with planning please feel free to get in touch to discuss your budget and wishes. X

A fabric womb made by Angélique du Coudray, a French midwife who was commissioned by King Louis XV to reduce infant mortality.

A fabric womb made by Angélique du Coudray, a French midwife who was commissioned by King Louis XV to reduce infant mortality. From 1760 to 1783, she traveled all over France, visiting poor rural women and sharing her extensive knowledge with them. It is estimated that she trained some 10,000 women.
Du Coudray also invented the first lifesize obstetrical mannequin, for practicing mock births, and published a well-received midwifery textbook

I could never have prepared for a love like this.

A type of love so potent that it feels heavy like grief.

Holding you to my breast in the darkness of night under the salt lamp glow,
Rocking you to the songs I would sing to you as you were growing in my womb,
I am ever present that this is our sacred time.

And one day, you won’t remember all of these sleepless nights in my arms,
As we watch the moon rise and the sun come up together.
One day, it will only be me
Who remembers this time.

My heart will never open wider and I will never have to do more letting go than I will on the journey of being your Mama.

It is my job to be your anchor,
to love you as deep as love can go.
And it is your job to find your wings
and fly.

What an honour it is to be the one to meet your soul in such tenderness.

Thank you for choosing me to walk you into this world,
and may it be so that one day
you walk me out of it.
