CFR (Volunteer Community First Responders)
We provide emergency medical care to our community on behalf of the North west Ambulance Service.
For anyone new to our communities, we thought we would let you
know what we do and how you can help us assist in an emergency and potentially save a life.
We have a small team of 3 CFRs and we are called out to support, in the event of a cardiac event and other specific medical emergencies, if an ambulance is dispatched. YOU must call 999, as we are usually only able to respond if an ambulance is sent.
Bascially we bridge the gap between the ambulance being sent and its arrival at your house. But we are volunteers, so not available 24/7.
So what does this mean for YOU?
We urge everyone to locate the defib in their village/local areas - see the photo, for the area we cover as CFRs. There is one in IREBY, ULDALE, AUGHERTREE, BOLTONGATE and BOLTON LOW HOUSES.
NOT BREATHING?
If someone is not breathing (shake and shout to check for a response, open the airway (tilt the head back) and check for breathing for 10 seconds. You should look at their chest to see if it rises and falls and you can put a hand on it), call 999. State the person is NOT breathing.
Shout for help, call your neighbours, get some help coming. (Go round and ask your neighbours today, what their telephone numbers are and note them down, just in case.)
Commence CPR.
Send someone for the defib (this will monitor the heart and if it needs it deliver a shock). Tell the 999 call handler that there is a nearby defib (they should know this as they are all registered). They will give you a code, send the person with the code and open the box, take out the defib and return back to the person doing CPR.
Apply the pads to the person's chest, listen to the defib.
If there's no one around call 999 before starting compressions. put your phone on speaker phone and talk to the 999 handler.

We will be organising some community training from September onwards, so keep your eyes peeled.
Enjoy the summer and please contact us if you have any queries. 😀
