Tagsa Uibhist - Slàinte agus Sunnd - Health and Wellbeing in our Community

Tagsa Uibhist - Slàinte agus Sunnd - Health and Wellbeing in our Community Tagsa Uibhist is the only registered charity in the area that provides its service users with free care from trained staff.

Tagsa Uibhist - Our vision is that all people in Uist have the opportunity and support they need to be healthy, to live with dignity, to experience wellbeing at all stages in their lives, and to be part of an inclusive and caring community. Tagsa Uibhist is a voluntary organisation founded in 1999 that provides support for carers, people with dementia and vulnerable people living in their own home

s throughout the Uists. This is a service that works in partnership with Alzheimers Scotland- Action on Dementia. Our service is registered and regulated by the Care Inspectorate and has established effective links with statutory and other voluntary groups on the island. Tagsa Uibhist is a 'company Limited by Guarantee' locally owned and managed by its members and directors

We believe that to provide a professional service, it is paramount to put service users at the heart of everything we do. The people receiving our support have become accustomed to our flexible, user-led services; making Tagsa Uibhist a major provider of care services throughout the Uists and Benbecula.

At Tagsa Uibhist, we are working hard to ensure the voices of our community are heard regarding the proposed closure of the Bank of Scotland branch.

We are in close and ongoing discussions with Alasdair Allan MSP and Torcuil Crichton MP, who are both advocating strongly for Uist. We are grateful for their efforts to highlight the unique challenges we face, from our ageing demographics and lack of public transport to the island premium' costs of switching to online banking.

Despite the pressure being applied, we have yet to receive a formal reply from the Bank.

The current criteria for "Banking Hubs" simply do not work for Uist. They ignore our geography, our transport links, and the privacy needs of community members.

We believe the closure should be postponed until a truly viable, equivalent service is guaranteed for everyone in Uist.

Pease write to your elected representatives to let them know how this closure affects you.

At Tagsa Uibhist, we have been listening closely to the deep concerns shared by our clients, staff, and neighbours regarding the planned closure of the Bank of Scotland branch in Balivanich.

We know that for many in Uist, especially our older residents and those facing digital or geographic isolation, a physical bank branch isn't just a convenience; it is a vital lifeline.

We have formally written to Sir Robin Budenberg, Chair of the Bank of Scotland, urging the bank to reconsider this decision. We have highlighted the unique challenges our islands face, from digital exclusion to the lack of consultation with the third sector. We have also shared our letter with Torcuil Crichton MP and Allan MSP to ensure our community’s voice is heard at every level.

If you are worried about how this closure will affect you or someone you care for, please feel free to get in touch with us. While Tagsa Uibhist cannot help with banking issues directly, we will do our very best to support you or refer you to the appropriate agency for specialist advice.

We are very grateful to NHS Western Isles and the Clothworkers Foundation for funding for a new Art Psychotherapy Studio which we will soon be building in the Community Tagsa Uibhist Community Gardens. This will add to our renewed efforts to support mental health, well-being, social inclusion and participation for all in our gardens.

Set in a peaceful and supportive environment, the cabin will feature large windows to make the most of natural light and will ensure accessibility to all clients via ramps and a wide doorway. In addition, it will also enable Tagsa’s weekly Gardening Club, which comprises a number of vulnerable adults, to have a safe space to use between their activities.

CREATIVE SANCTUARY CABIN FOR UISTt
To bolster Tagsa Uibhist’s approaches to supporting mental health and wellbeing on Uist, NHS Western Isles provided a capital grant to purchase a dedicated garden cabin to create a safe space for art psychotherapy and wellbeing groups and sessions.

A donation of £15,000 has enabled the group to purchase an insulated wooden cabin, which is located within their community gardens, surrounded by vibrant flowers, trees and soothing greenery. A further £10,000 grant from The Clothworkers Foundation, will be used to develop the base and path.

Tagsa Uibhist, which is a community-based charity, takes a holistic approach in helping people live their life to the full, and access the care and support they need to reach their potential. It does this by finding ways to connect people with each other, to be physically active, to learn new skills and fulfilling activities, and to take an active part in community life.

The cabin will be used for .... read more at https://www.wihb.scot.nhs.uk/creative-sanctuary-cabin-for-uist/

We are looking to recruit a Domestic Assistant!

Tagsa Uibhist supports our service users to remain in the comfort and security of their own homes, helping them live as independently as possible.
As part of this, the Domestic Assistant role supports service users by maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic home environment. Domestic Assistants provide general cleaning including vacuuming, dusting, mopping and cleaning kitchens and bathrooms. They undertake household tasks such as laundry, ironing, changing
bed linen and general tidying.
If supporting people in our community by helping them maintain a clean and tidy home sounds like something you could do, please contact us!
