**Understanding Parkinson's Disease**

Did you know that 1 in every 500 people in the UK live with Parkinson's? That's around 127,000 individuals! This progressive neurological condition affects movement due to the loss of dopamine-producing nerve cells. Key symptoms include tremors, bradykinesia, and muscle stiffness.

Diagnosis is made through a specialist's examination—no lab test can confirm it. Treatment mainly revolves around drug therapy to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

Let's raise awareness and support those impacted by this condition! Together, we can make a difference.

👁️ "The eyes have it!" In neuro rehab, understanding oculomotor function is crucial for optimising recovery post-acquired brain injury.

I once treated a patient unable to gauge speed, distance, or even where to look during daily tasks due to visual processing issues after occipital lobe surgery. Her struggles highlighted the importance of integrating vision and movement in therapy.

Let’s prioritise comprehensive assessments that go beyond visual acuity! How do you incorporate oculomotor assessments into your practice? Share your insights below!

Discover the unseen power of the cerebellum! At Birkdale, we assist those with conditions affecting this vital brain region, which makes up just 10% of brain volume but holds over 50% of its neurons. Beyond balance and coordination, it influences cognition, attention, and language. Explore how our unique micro-etching art by Greg Dunn & Brian Edwards beautifully represents this complexity!

At Birkdale we see many individuals who have conditions that impact the cerebellum – which accounts for 10% of the volume of the whole brain, yet contains greater than 50% of its total number of neurons. The function of the cerebellum goes far beyond its commonly recognized role in balance and coo...

New trends in treating children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) are emerging. As the most common neurological disorder in kids, CP encompasses a range of movement and posture disorders stemming from non-progressive brain disturbances.

In her career, Farshideh has witnessed the diverse needs of children classified into categories: spastic (50-75%), ataxic, and more. Each child's journey is unique, requiring tailored therapies to enhance mobility and quality of life.

Let’s innovate together! Share your insights or experiences working with children affected by CP below. Your thoughts could inspire new approaches! 💬https://ow.ly/fCBx50Xbaxv

Every year, over 130,000 people in the UK experience a stroke, with half showing no physical weakness after 6 months. Despite this recovery plateau belief, neuro physiotherapy offers hope by promoting neural reorganisation and activity-dependent plasticity through targeted movement training.

Research shows that nearby neurons can take over functions lost due to stroke, emphasising the potential for improvement beyond the initial six months. Accurate monitoring and tailored interventions are crucial for long-term recovery! Let’s rethink our approach to stroke rehabilitation.

🌟 **Upper Limb Rehabilitation After a Stroke** 🌟

Our hands and arms are essential for skilled movements in daily life—whether handling your phone, opening doors, or playing sports. Unfortunately, 50-80% of stroke survivors face upper limb impairments, making recovery challenging. At Birkdale, we tailor rehabilitation to each individual’s needs. Research shows that consistent practice of meaningful tasks can restore movement quality and improve postural control.

Let us support you on your journey to regain independence and functionality! Together, we can conquer these challenges! 💙

Many acute stroke patients have difficulty using their arm, which can lead to long term reduced use and dysfunction.
