N O I S E… have you considered that ā€˜noise’ may have an impact on how happy or safe you feel to be in a space? I like wearing noise-reduction earphones or play the music that aligns with how I’m feeling at that moment in time… šŸ¤

For whoever said / says that romance is dead… you don’t live with someone who knows you’ll absolutely love receiving a gift of two enormous cast iron balls

Thank you my love for my two 48kg kettlebells!! Now I need to get them to the studio…

3 things I like to do before moving / training which help me ground to the present moment and give me time to check-in with myself.

Prone lying with conscious breathing (ā€œI am breathing in… I am breathing outā€)
Foot care - massage, heel lifts, spiky ball rolling, toe spreading
Self-touch, tapping, squeezing

From this place I get a better sense of what’s going on in my whole body and it helps guide my session:

🌟What mood am I in?
🌟What are my energy levels like?
🌟Do I have any niggles in the body that I need to tend to?
🌟Is my head busy with thoughts or fairly spacious?
🌟What do I feel like doing / not doing?!

This helps me to stop steam-rolling into something I think I ā€˜should’ be doing and work out what is best for my whole, somatic wellbeing šŸ–¤

It’s been a big ol’ week for me - I’m so proud of my achievements with my level 2 kettlebells certification last weekend.

Months and months of training whilst keeping aligned to my somatic way of being - it’s been such a learning experience… to bring that somatic and trauma-informed awareness into my own practice and to share it with my clients and students.

Glad to have the pause today, to enjoy a walk with my favourite girls and in this glorious sunshine šŸŒž

Have a great weekend everybody ###

The day after the weekend before…

My body was definitely feeling the effects of three days of training and testing at my StrongFirst level 2 Kettlebell certification but there was a deep need to mobilise, pause, breathe, stretch out.

I gave myself 6 months to prepare for this assessment so that I could approach it with a genuine awareness of my whole body….

… time to build strength, without injuring myself
… time for other life events to happen without eating into my available training time
… time to be a mum, girlfriend, daughter, sister, friend
… time to do other movement modalities that would support my overall wellbeing
… time to feel prepared and not rushed

And afterwards (now!) it needs time to recover, absorb, settle and regulate…

I have learnt over the years that my body has its own way of being in this world and that it’s best for me to honour that, rather than compare myself to what others are doing šŸ¤šŸ™šŸ»šŸ¤

šŸ¤ FEELING INCREDIBLY PROUD (and a tad frazzled!) of myself.

This weekend I attended my level 2 advanced kettlebells certificate - passing is not guaranteed and I trained for 6 months specifically to prepare for this assessment.

I P A S S E D šŸ™ŒšŸ» And with flying colours šŸ¤šŸ„³šŸ’ŖšŸ»

What I love about my strength training with is how well it aligns with my trauma-informed somatic teaching and strength coaching.

There is a strong emphasis on community, safety and wellbeing before weight, mindfulness in movement, the importance of breath, self-awareness and knowing your boundaries, joy and laughter.

Strength training is everyone’s right, whatever your circumstances, and I hope I can continue to promote the importance of embodied yoga and strength training through a trauma-informed and somatic lens.

Thank you so much to my coach for preparing me - she has such a wealth of experience and has a very keen eye for how to improve. I don’t underestimate the amount of work that went into planning the whole event…

A massive thanks to all the team leaders and assistants for your support and encouragement over the weekend šŸ¤

And of course to our master instructor (seen here with me!) for sharing your incredibly knowledge and good humour - always a pleasure to be in your company šŸ™šŸ»

If you would like to know more or are curious about how we might work together, please do get in touch - I love a good natter and I really believe in what I offer šŸ¤

Much love,
Lou xx

This is an important decision I make each day and it’s important I understand the difference between them and why I might choose one over the other at a given time.

For me, mobility is an active, controlled range of motion. It’s my ability to move a joint through its full range with strength, stability, and control.

Whereas flexibility, for me, is a passive range of motion. It’s how far a muscle can stretch without needing strength or control.

The interesting thing that I have discovered over the last decade or so, is that I don’t have to choose one in isolation or in preference over the other.

My body likes to mix it up and move between mobility and flexibility; between active and passive movement.

The key for me, is to really listen in and pay attention to what my WHOLE body is asking for… what sensations and signals am I noticing that I can use to better nurture and nourish my whole body?

Today my head needed quietening, my body wanted to move but lightly, my heart felt joy and excitement (but some nervousness for my upcoming advanced kettlebell assessment!)

So I started slowly with breath and head movement, grounding into the floor, allowing the nervous system to settle…

It felt so good to move, with a breath focus; up and down, back and forth, over and under, circling and spiralling, left and right and diagonals, two feet and all fours, slower and quicker…

Aaaah! Much better ā˜ŗļøšŸ™šŸ»šŸ¤
