🦵 Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS) 🦵

We’ve recently seen a rise in lateral hip pain—especially in walkers, runners, and desk-based workers. A common cause is GTPS - a condition affecting the outer hip where tendons and bursae near the greater trochanter become painful. It can feel like a deep ache or sharp pain on the side of the hip, often worse when lying on that side, climbing stairs, or rising from a chair.

Here are a few tips from The Physio Clinic Kendal that can help ease symptoms—especially when paired with a personalised rehabilitation plan:

1️⃣ Avoid prolonged sitting or side-lying on the affected side
2️⃣ Maintain neutral postures to reduce strain on the area
3️⃣ Modify aggravating activities—especially repetitive motions or sudden peaks in physical activity

If hip pain is slowing you down, we’re here to help. Book in for a detailed assessment and rehab plan that gets you moving comfortably again.

🏃‍♀️ Achilles Tendinopathy: 🏃‍♂️ Over the past two months, we've noticed an increasing number of runners coming to us with Achilles pain. Achilles tendinopathy is a condition that brings pain, swelling, and stiffness to the Achilles tendon—the crucial connector between your calf muscles and heel bone. Often caused by overuse or repetitive stress, it can feel like a major setback for runners.

So here are 5 tips from The Physio Clinic to help you avoid this injury and keep your training on track:

1️⃣ Gradual Training Progression: Ease into your training and avoid sudden increases in intensity or mileage.

2️⃣ Calf Strengthening Exercises: Build a resilient Achilles by consistently strengthening your calf muscles.

3️⃣ Thorough Warm-Up: Start with a proper warm-up to prepare your body and tendon for action.

4️⃣ Training Variation and Recovery Time – consider cross-training in your routine and include rest days to avoid overloading your tendon.

5️⃣ Evaluate Biomechanical Factors – such as form, cadence and foot strike.

🌙💤 Happy World Sleep Day! 🛏️ Today, we celebrate the power of sleep and its vital role in our overall well-being. 🌱 Whether you're catching up on sleep or perfecting your bedtime routine, remember: sufficient quality sleep is essential for both mind and body health. 🧠💪

For injury risk, there is growing evidence that sleep plays an important role. Poor sleep adversely affects various physiological and cognitive processes, including balance, coordination, reaction time, decision-making, emotional regulation, and physical performance - all of which can contribute to increased risk of injury. Additionally, quality sleep is essential for recovery after injury, supporting the body's ability to heal and return to optimum function. Therefore, prioritising adequate and restorative sleep is worthy of attention, whether in daily activities, high-risk environments, or sports.

Let’s spread awareness about the importance of healthy sleep habits for a better, brighter tomorrow! 🌟
