Have you ever noticed it feels easier to look at your drink, your phone… literally anything… than make eye contact in a busy pub?

That’s not you being awkward.
That’s your nervous system scanning for safety.

When we’re in loud, unpredictable environments, our brain shifts into subtle threat-detection mode. Eye contact suddenly feels intense because eye contact = connection = exposure.

And when we’re even slightly anxious? Exposure feels risky.
