Wow - from 26 stone to 26 miles.
After losing over 13 stone with Slimming World Douglas Clarke discovered a love for running. Now at 49 he's taken part in today's London Marathon, running for Cancer Research UK in memory of his mum, a former international cycling champion who died suddenly in 2020 from a brain aneurism linked to multiple cancers.
Douglas hopes to raise awareness of the links between healthy weight, physical activity and cancer risk.
At his heaviest, Douglas weighed 26st 11lbs and suffered from dangerously high blood pressure, swelling and bloating in both legs, and an elevated heart rate after mild activity - even while taking two medications.
His turning point came after experiencing severe swelling in his foot and calk, which eventually caused skin to break and develop sores.
With the help of his 16 year old son, Douglas found his local Slimming World group. He soon learned that by food optimising together with the support of his consultant and fellow members he could achieve his ideal weight and was able to transform his eating habits and overall lifestyle.
Since losing the weight Douglas no longer takes medication and his blood pressure is within a healthy range. He has also become a Slimming World Consultant to help others in their own journeys towards healthier living. What an inspiration. ❤️
