My Postnatal Rehab Diary
I’m a mum of 3 and have had three very different births.
• Caragh – emergency C-section after a 14-hour labour and a failed forceps attempt (10/10 would not recommend).
• Aoibhe – vaginal hospital delivery after a speedy 5-hour labour.
• Sé – vaginal home birth after a very chilled (but still very painful) 4-hour labour.
After welcoming our little boy Sé nearly 8 weeks ago, I decided to start sharing snippets of my postnatal rehab journey — mainly so you can follow my slow and sensible return to the things I love: running, the gym, and Hyrox.
I was incredibly lucky to have a very straightforward home birth. No tears, no stitches, no major issues… but does that mean I’m ready to jump straight back into pre-pregnancy training at 6 weeks postpartum?
Absolutely not. Not a hope.
This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, and it’s definitely not a “this is what everyone should do.” It’s simply this is what I’m doing. Rehab looks different for everyone — especially when you’re trying to squeeze it in between toddlers, babies, and real life.
But it is important… because I’d like future playground adventures with my kids (and eventual grandkids) to involve laughing, running, and playing — not crossed legged and with surprise leaks.
Keep an eye on our page to follow my journey!
