2 young boys lives saved…

At 1629hrs on Sunday Sept 21st, the team were tasked to reports of two paddleboarders in difficulty on Carlingford Lough.

As we arrived on scene we were able to get eyes on with the casualties spotted by our OIC Kilkeel Bravo.

Shortly after spotting the casualties we were able to direct our colleagues Kilkeel RNLI onto them who scooped two young brothers clinging to a paddle board out of the water.

The team made our way to Warrenpoint marina where the two boys were treated for exposure and hypothermia by Kilkeel CRT and Kilkeel RNLI.

The boys family members rushed the boys to hospital where the welcome news came late this evening that the boys are ok.

With a flat calm day, an off the shore wind and undercurrents it is important to not understimate the dangers of Carlingford Lough.

Two lives saved today.

A busy afternoon for the team…

At 1418hrs on August 25th, the team were tasked along with NIAS and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service to Camlough Lake to reports of a swimmer entangled on some waste fishing line, as the team proceeded to scene the welcome news came through that a paddle boarder had helped the swimmer to safety.

The team stood down and returned to base.

At 1544hrs on August 25th, the team were tasked to reports of x2 missing 3 year old children it Cranfield Bay caravan park.

As the team arrived on scene the news came through that x1 of the children had been located safe and well.

An ICP ( Incident Command Post ) was set up utilising the RNLI Lifeguard hut on scene.

Using L&MPS ( Lost and Missing Persons Search ) techniques, a hasty search was carried out of Cranfield beach, on completion of this, Kilkeel RNLI was requested by the team to Belfast Coastguard to support in a search of the inner bay.

Three search teams were deployed inside the immediate HUB of the area where the child was last scene utilising a teams from Kilkeel CRT, Cranfield RNLI Lifeguards and a callsign from Police Newry, Mourne & Down.

The search teams were tasked of carrying out a hasty search of the cranfield bay caravan park.

As the supporting team of our flank team’s Newcastle Coastguard and Greenore Coast Guard were arriving on scene the child was located just outside the HUB.

The child was brought to the ICP where a medical assessment was carried out while handing over to the parents - a welcome sight.

All teams stood down and returned to base.

On route home from the incident above the team came across a medical emergency where casualty care was administered before handing over to Northern Ambulance Service.

The team would like to thank all the members of the public and supporting teams today.

A special shout out to Catherine and Ricky from Cranfield Bay Holiday Park who assisted in supporting us.

We wish all involved all the best with a good nights sleep in order this evening ☺️

If you get in difficulty on the shoreline or along the coast please dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Storm Floris is due to hit Northern Ireland, Scotland, and parts of Northern Wales and England when it arrives Monday morning, bringing devastating winds of up to 85mph to some exposed coastlines.

With an amber weather warning put in place by the Met Office, we are urging everyone to stay away from the water and consider only travelling if necessary.

Strong winds such as these can generate huge waves which drive towards the shore, potentially creating rip currents as they break away.

All it takes is one powerful wave to knock you off your feet and drag you out to sea.

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Kilkeel and Newcastle CRTs were tasked to assist Northern Ireland Ambulance service with a young female who had been walking with her friends along at Murlough when she stepped on a used hot disposable BBQ which had been buried in the sand.
The girl was taken to hospital to receive treatment to her badly burned foot.

If you’re going to use disposable BBQs
Dispose of your BBQs responsibly. Don’t just throw sand over them and hide them. Cool with water and bin them. Do not be responsible for inflicting potentially life changing injuries.

This incident could’ve been a lot worse if it had been a child that stepped on it

We’re proud to support , the first 24-hour celebration of the UK seafood industry. spotlights unique stories and information about the work that goes into our great UK seafood.

We encourage everyone within our community to show support for the campaign, sharing pictures of your catches, seafood suppers, or a day out on the water.

The UK is home to over 10,000 fishermen that work hard in unpredictable and sometimes challenging conditions to bring seafood to shore.

As part of our Man Overboard campaign, we spoke to fishermen Brian Chambers and Simon Bywater to hear why they got into fishing, and how safety measures have played a huge role in their day-to-day lives. You can read their stories via our MOB webpage.
