Life After Stroke

Life After Stroke Our aim is to raise £2,000 to support the Freedom Stroke Club who are based in Hull, because there is life after stroke.

You never understand the intensity of a stroke or how it affects the people around it. It chooses it's victims wisely, and sweeps across like a thunderstorm. Never did I think that thunderstorm would hit my family. However, over a year ago now, my mum suffered a severe stroke. It stripped her of her life, and her independence. The doctors thought she would never walk, or talk again, yet through sh

eer determination she is continuing to prove everyone wrong, and show there is life after stoke. This last year my mum has being attending the freedom stroke club in Hull. The club is designed for stroke survivors carers and family members. People who attend the club offer each other support, friendship, empathy and inspiration. It is so important to have someone to talk to in the same situation as you, and it can be amazingly beneficial to the stroke survivor's and their carers, and we want to support the Freedom Club, in supporting other people through life after stroke. The Freedom Stroke club is ran by Cheryl Rickles. She has been running The freedom Club since 2012, she is the heart and sole of this club and the glue that holds it together. She hold events, Christmas Lunches, Day Trips and Red Cross Therapy Sessions. She also invites interesting speakers to the meetings which are held on the last Friday of each month at The Freedom Centre, Hull. This club gives independence back to stroke survivors, the money will be spent in ensuring the future of the club. Once the money has been raised we will be putting it towards the running of the Freedom club such as: Transport facilities, events and therapy sessions, to continue supporting people who are in the fight for a life after a stroke. Over the next few months we will be organising and completing some tough challenges and events. The team will be doing the major series assault course in Leeds, a 'Purple run' around hull. A coffee and beauty morning and a Tracey challenge. We do have a Just Giving page ready, however this won't be launched for another month yet, as our challenge is to raise £2000, and once the page is live we have 30 days to raise the money. So what we would like to do is complete at least two of the challenges/ Events before we launch the page. Please keep a look out over the next two months for more information on launch dates and events. We would love it if as many of you as possible could take part and help raise money for our campaign 'Life After Stroke'.
