Life long interest in health led to degrees in health & exercise science, hand in hand alongside years of endurance competition and a busy family life, so if you need a nudge in the right direction or some more substantial guidance, drop me a message.

Who knew?
Chips aren't anyone's idea of a health food and it's certainly common knowledge that glucose spikes are a challenge to the body's desire for a nice stable homeostatic state, but a bit of vinegar and hey presto, less potential energy level fluctuations and a happier body!

Five years of academic study, 20 years of amateur cycle sport, and a lifetime of general interest in health and performance and I certainly agree, make the choices that bring you the life you want as it’s mostly conditioning that lead to good, poor, or exceptional health.
If you don’t feel you can make those choices yourself then reach out for a helping hand, many are available.
All the best for your 2025!

Highly unlikely that the documented physiological benefits to cognition and mood could lead to outstanding performance in subject’s fields of interest, or is it?
Of course there’s far more to such things than simply eating chocolate, though eating small amounts of high cocoa content (> 70%) chocolate is well known to offer health benefits to consumers, and not a bad choice for a treat or ‘pick me up’.
As in many things, be discerning and consume in moderation for best effect.

According to this research, there is an interesting connection between eating more chocolate and winning the Nobel Prize.😁😁

Everyone needs to get regular exercise to live a healthy life, and it doesn’t really matter how you get it, but it’s certainly best if you can enjoy it.

Having been an educationally upskilled recreational athlete for many years, now an aging one, I second this world champion's comments on the importance of listening to your body and weighing up the cost/benefit of pushing beyond your limits at times. Of course though this is a natural part of competition and training, it should be done with a grounded mind prioritising the importance of long term health and vitality, for without that, optimal performance, and the chance of continuing robust lifelong health, can be challenged.

To say that I’ve seen mixed reviews about our decision to share the win would be an understatement. While part of me doesn’t want to entertain the negative comments, I would like to help enlighten those that are calling us “cowards”, “shameful”, “pathetic” etc. I know you can’t make everyone happy in this world, but in an effort to help people understand the sport that I love so much, I would like to explain my mentality in that moment. The pole vault is not an endurance event. We have a short window of jumps. Once the fatigue sets in, it not only becomes more difficult, but dangerous. The sport has seen everything from athletes just landing funny with minor tweaks, to horrific accidents. We had jumped an entire competition, vaulting for almost 4 hours in 85 degree heat. The competition ended, and we were exhausted. A World Championship is incredibly emotionally draining-even more so than a regular competition. My step (the point where I jump off the ground into the takeoff) to vault safely has to be in almost the exact same spot every time, give or take a few inches. My last few jumps, that takeoff step was moving further and further out, giving us real data showing my fatigue even with adrenaline. To walk away healthy and with a gold medal, while celebrating with my friend that had jumped just as well, was a no-brainer. Part of the reason we’ve reached the highest level is by listening to our bodies, and knowing our limitations. We decided that in this particular moment, sharing glory was just as good as earning it outright. I understand that people want to see a clear winner. It is the exciting part of sport. But in this instance, it was without a doubt the right decision, and one that I will never regret. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need a “win at all cost” mindset to have a champion’s mentality.

There are some sacrifices that need to be made to become a world champion (or a generally healthy human), being humble enough to be able to ask for help is one of them.

The new men's world champion apparently stopped off in a Scottish house to take a break on Sunday, but he was not the first to feel an urgency mid-race

Not a recommended list but remembering that your diet is basically what you eat, helps us realize that we don't have to follow any particular dietary path other than one that supports our health and wellbeing. Small deliberate and purposeful habit changes are often easier to maintain and for good reason. find things that you like and can sustain, and stick with them.

Happy new year to you.
