Why Emergency First Aid in Care Homes Matters

In care settings, emergencies don’t wait, and neither should the right level of training.

While Basic Life Support (BLS) training is essential for care staff, it’s just as important that senior staff and management are qualified first aiders. Having someone on site with a recognised Emergency First Aid at Work qualification means confident, competent decision-making when it matters most.

This is especially important where BLS is completed online. Face-to-face training allows staff to practice skills, ask questions, and build real confidence, something that can make all the difference in a care environment.

Happy New Year! We’re Back and Ready for 2026!

We’re excited to kick off the year by putting our growth plans firmly in place for 2026.

This year, we’re focusing on expanding our clinical support services, a direct response to the increasing demand and the already significant backlog faced by district nursing teams.

New & Expanded Clinical Training Support
Due to popular request, we’re now able to support organisations with a wider range of clinical training, helping ease pressures and ensure teams have the skills and confidence they need.

Highfield-Accredited Courses
We’re continuing to deliver a full suite of Highfield-accredited qualifications, including:
• Emergency First Aid
• First Aid in the Workplace (including refresher courses)
• A full range of Mental Health qualifications

Pediatric First Aid
We’re proud to share that our Pediatric First Aid training has already been successfully rolled out to a number of schools and nurseries—and we’re continuing to grow this support throughout 2026.

Exciting News!

The Sure Training family has grown!

We’re proud to welcome Robin Carrick as our new Internal Trainer.

Robin brings a wealth of experience from across the care sector, from frontline support work to team leadership and regional training.

With a career spanning roles in autism support, dementia care, end-of-life care, and staff development, Robin has trained and mentored countless care professionals to deliver outstanding, person-centred support.

His qualifications include NVQs in care planning, autism, dementia, diabetes management, mental health, and counselling skills, alongside specialist training in medication handling, safeguarding, and positive behaviour support.

Robin’s passion for empowering staff and improving client outcomes makes him the perfect fit to lead our internal training programme. We’re excited for the knowledge, dedication, and energy he’ll bring to our team!

From composting food scraps to switching off unused lights, staff and residents are working together to build greener, healthier homes.

Whether it’s planting gardens, choosing eco-friendly products, or learning how to handle waste safely, this training is sparking real change — one action at a time.

This week, we were delighted to deliver Day One of our Train the Trainer: Moving & Positioning course in collaboration with North Lincolnshire Council.

Over two engaging days, delegates will develop the skills and confidence to plan, deliver and assess high-quality Moving & Handling training within their own teams, promoting safe, person-centred care and best practice across the sector.

Day One – Theory

- Teaching methods and adapting to different learning styles

- Building trainer confidence and presentation skills

- Structuring and delivering engaging sessions

- Embedding best practice and person-centred approaches

Day Two – Practical

- Hands-on experience with equipment including standing aids, hoists, profile beds and slide sheets

- Practical teaching practice with peer and trainer feedback

- Competence assessment to ensure safe, effective techniques are taught

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

- Plan and deliver effective Moving & Handling sessions

- Demonstrate and teach safe use of equipment

- Adapt training to different learning needs

- Promote safe practice in line with legislation and guidelines

All participants will leave with a certificate of achievement, a ready-to-use training presentation, and lesson plans to support their future delivery.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to our partners at North Lincolnshire Council for making this collaboration such a success.

Dementia Training – Open Classrooms

Sessions Now Available

With dementia training continuing to be a key focus across local authorities, we’re pleased to be offering mixed sessions for care staff from different homes to join together in our classroom-based Dementia Awareness courses.

These sessions are ideal for homes that want to send handfuls of staff at a time so the home can still run efficiently and being a shared session means it's also cost effective!

Our interactive training covers:

✅ What dementia means and the different types

✅ Recognising signs and symptoms

✅ Legislation and best practice guidance

✅ Living with dementia – the daily impact

✅ Supporting families and understanding emotional effects

✅ Dementia and mental health

✅ Practical, person-centred approaches to care

✅ Promoting dignity and respecting choice

✅ Identifying and reporting potential abuse

Learning outcomes:

- By the end of the session, learners will be able to:

- Confidently explain what dementia is and the different types

- Understand legal and ethical responsibilities in dementia care

- Recognise challenges faced by individuals and families

- Apply person-centred care approaches that promote dignity and choice

- Identify and respond appropriately to signs of abuse
