A magical Christmas surprise!

On Friday morning, 19th December, some of our residents from Bourne House Nursing Home were whisked away on a top-secret trip to Chessington Garden Centre — and what a surprise it was! They didn’t know a thing until we were boarding the ambulance… and the excitement was priceless.

Despite the brilliant winter sunshine making it feel more like spring than December, stepping into Santa’s Grotto transported us straight into a festive wonderland. Singing snowmen, penguins, beavers, busy elves, dazzling lights, towering Christmas trees and the most magical Arctic scenes had everyone wide-eyed and smiling.

The highlight? Meeting the real live reindeer. Pure joy. We finished the morning with tea, coffee and Victoria sponge cake in the café, joined by some of the residents ' family members from Surbiton Care Home, sharing laughs and memories.

A huge thank you to the wonderful Jonty for making the journey so comfortable and full of cheer. A truly unforgettable festive adventure before heading home for lunch 🎅💫🎄

A very special surprise visit!
On Thursday 18th December, Bourne House Nursing Home was delighted to welcome two very special guests — completely unexpected and all the more exciting!
The new Mayor of Kingston, Noel Hadjimichael, arrived with his Deputy Mayor, the lovely Susie Ansari, to spend a wonderful hour with our residents and amazing care staff. Arriving just after half two and staying until nearly half three, they came to personally wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a joyful New Year.

There were warm smiles all round as they enjoyed hot beverages and a slice of Victoria sponge cake, before taking the time to circulate and chat with each and every resident. Amazingly, the Mayor remembered many of our residents and staff members by name from his previous visits — including Remembrance Day on 11th November and our fundraiser on 21st August — making this his third visit to Bourne House. It was lovely to catch up on everyone’s news and to introduce him to our three new residents too.

Although it was a short visit due to their busy schedules, the time we shared was truly uplifting and very special. A particularly heart-warming moment came when our wonderful Jane, our very shy and private retired opera singer, treated our guests to a beautifully impromptu song — a rare and emotional moment that truly brought a tear to the eye.
We wish the Mayor and Deputy Mayor a very Merry Christmas, thank them for all their hard work throughout the year, and very much look forward to welcoming them back again next year 🎄✨🎄

On Thursday morning 18th of December, around 10.45, Bourne House Nursing Home was treated to a very special surprise.

We welcomed back the wonderful double act The Uplifters, who took over the downstairs lounge for an hour of pure festive magic for our amazing residents and care staff. Hilary and Rowan have the most incredible, versatile voices and an energy that instantly fills the room. Their Christmas show, themed around elves and Santa, had everyone smiling from start to finish.

Woven throughout the performance were so many much-loved classics, including “Viva Las Vegas” by Elvis, “Baby I Love You “ by The Beatles , "These Boots Are Made For Walking “ by Nancy Sinatra, and “Food Glorious Food" from the musical Oliver just to name a few. The atmosphere was joyful, lively and full of Christmas cheer. The show ended with Elton John's” Step into Christmas”,which is one of our residents favourite Christmas songs and they all sang along for the finale, which was so heart warming!

The Uplifters packed the show with so many colourful costume changes and Hilary looked stunning in her beautiful red dress as she performed” Can't buy me Love" by the Beatles, and Rowan really looked the part as Elvis! They have visited us many times before and they truly never disappoint – we always get excited when they arrive!

Our residents absolutely loved it, the lounge was buzzing, and it’s safe to say everyone is now feeling wonderfully festive and very much looking forward to Christmas Day 🎅🎶
