✨️ An outdoor art and sound bath session ✨️

Each of the sound bath sessions I've done with adults and children with special needs are so different and it is an absolute joy to be guided by them, together facilitating a session that best suits the individual or groups.

Some people require very little talking from me, putting the sound of the crystal bowls at the heart of the session, others prefer movement and dance throughout and some enjoy listening to the sounds whilst concentrating on an art or lego activity that we've set up together.

As an artist, I'm drawn (no pun intended!) to thinking and acting creatively and to have the opportunity to bring that into my sound sessions to benefit those I work with, feels like a wonderful thing!

✨️ A few weeks ago, I got invited by the wonderful Emily from to do a sound bath as part of a 'spa' weekend for the Girl Guides

🌙 It was lovely to be part of and to be able to introduce these sound sessions to a group of young people!

🌿 The sound bath enabled them to relax and reset before heading into a weekend full of exciting activities!

Here I am doing a sound bath in a pub. Yep, you read that right!

I went along to a women's business networking event in Kingston and each month the group are asked if anyone would like to talk about an area of business to help others gain more understanding of that area too.

Being new to the world of bizniz, I didn't have anything to offer so instead asked if they'd like a sound bath to begin that months business event and was met with a 'yes!'

Thank you 📸 😊

At the start of the year, I did 3 sound bath sessions at a local school in their specialist resourced provision for children with special needs.

🌿 Each session was so unique and each child interacted with the sound in their own unique way too

✨️ Before the sessions began, I was told that one child probably wouldn't want anything to do with the sessions and to just plan the sessions for the other children. In week 2, I had got the sensory room set up and this child came to the door. She looked hesitant and so without using any words I took the expandable ball over to her, sat in front of her and started breathing in and out, showing the breaths with this ball. I handed it to her and she copied and took 5 deep breaths in and out as the ball expanded and collapsed. She then ran off into the classroom to look at a book. I took the instruments I had set up in the sensory room and went to sit next to her and just started gently playing the Tibetan singing bowls. She looked at what I was doing and so I handed her another mallet to play too. Every bowl she played, I played straight after and every time she paused, I paused straight after. She started looking at me, using eye contact and we then swapped roles with her then copying me, waiting, listening and responding. It was such a lovely moment to witness and be a part of! The staff commented that this was the most they had seen her engaged and were very surprised to have seen her using eye contact in this way too.

🌙 Sound is simply wonderful! In these sessions, sound was able to facilitate communication and connection 😊

Here's a sound bath session I held for a group of toddlers at the wonderful Montessori school a while ago!

✨️ We did some quick games to release any energy followed by some breathing exercises to bring us all into a calm space before laying down for the sound bath

✨️ It was so lovely to see how each child responded to the sound in their own unique way, what a lovely session!

✨️ A huge thank you to the lovely staff team, it was great working with you all!

It's an absolute joy introducing these sound bath sessions to children! They're so creative in the way they talk about the sound, how it makes them feel and their use of the instruments.

✨️ Here's a sound session I had a little while back with brothers showing real care about the placement of the instruments and overall set up before we started our sound session together

✨️ We started the session with box breathing which bought us into the present moment, an exercise that allowed us to focus on how our mind and body felt - 'calm' was the feedback!

✨️ We then created a sound bath together, myself using the crystal bowls and the boys using the other instruments provided, holding a space to just listen to one another and respond

✨️ Then for the sound bath, a wonderfully calming experience felt by all

Over the last 3 weeks, I've been getting back into making art again by quite literally throwing paint on the page and seeing what marks are made with no aim at all in creating a 'picture'.

There's something so nice about getting back to the basics after a long break from painting, seeing what can be learnt and realising there's a whole other way of creating and seeing that I couldn't see before.

This year, I'm really looking forward to bringing art into my sound sessions with children. I've no idea what this looks like yet but I trust that, just like art has always shown me how to let go of 'knowing' and has encouraged me to 'just do', I'm trusting the children will guide me on this too and will show me how they want to create and I'll be there to support that.

I'm also really looking forward to starting painting again for myself this year and am so excited to see if it'll differ from my previous work shown above!

So very grateful for 2024! It was a big year of change, moving from a job I'd been doing for 11 years, into a completely new area of work. So very grateful for each and everyone who had a part to play in that transition. People have been so open to listening and so generous in the help they provided me 😊

So grateful for for their wonderful training! As well as feeling excited and confident to be sharing sound and massage, each provided such nurturing and supportive courses allowing me to come away learning far more about myself than I'd ever anticipated ✨️

Taking course in working with children, using the benefits of sound, has opened up so many wonderful opportunities and allowed me to work with many different children, parents and other professionals working with children too.

Last week, I worked with 3 wonderful teenagers. Their ability to reflect, share and open up during our sound session taught me so much about how sound therapy creates opportunities for children to connect with themselves in a safe space, allowing them to become aware of their inner world and opportunities of how to navigate their emotions effectively.

Even for those children who find talking or sharing challenging, these sessions can still have a positive impact on their emotional well-being as they can be offered as a non talking session and would still receive all the benefits that sound used in this way provided.

This session invited me to reflect on how I can best share these sessions with many other teenagers as of the New Year, something I'm really excited about!

A huge thank you to these teens and their Mum for such a wonderful session and for encouraging me to use these photos to share this work. Big shout out also to their rescue cats who usually find new people and new things tricky but seemed to find the session relaxing too!!

This is Jane, a wonderful yoga teacher who lives round the corner from me and I'm super excited to announce that we are now collaborating, bringing sound and yoga together on Sunday evenings! *

The story goes like this...

I woke up one morning 2 months ago and had a notion to boldly cold call the first person who came up on Google after typing 'yoga teachers near me'. Jane was indeed the first to appear on my screen and, feeling unusually confident about taking this call, I went for it! Dialling her number, I was so excited thinking of all the ways that a sound bath could work within a yoga session that I had forgotten the task at hand and so when Jane answered my reply was '..oh, hello, umm, I didn't think you were going to pick up! I'm going to start that again, I'm Amy' and the call greatly improved from then onwards. Phew!
After a long phone chat, that felt I'd been chatting to a good friend rather than a complete stranger, and a visit to her house for a cuppa to introduce ourselves, we both set about eagerly planning our sessions, a mix of yoga, breathework, meditation and sound.

* we're trialling the next 4 Sundays (17th, 24th Nov and 1st, 8th Dec) to see if there's an interest to continue this into the new year! Jane's studio holds 16 spaces per session

17th - sold out
24th - 3 spaces left

Looking forward to meeting some of you there! ✨️

✨️I first heard humming and vocal toning being used in a sound bath whilst I was in training and instantly knew it was something I wanted to add in my sound events too!

✨️Humming is an ancient practice that's been used all over the world with the aim of keeping a healthy, balanced mind and body.

✨️The vibrations from the humming sounds we make travel through our bodies and begin to resonate, allowing for tension held in the body to be released.
